Now a personal debate of mine was to choose a 3/8 or 1/2 and i didn't know what to decide. I give a quick run down on my personal thoughts maybe helping someone else choosing one but it's solely up to your personal preference. If you compare both the 3/8 does (5-99.5ft lbs) and the 1/2 does (12.5 to 250ft lbs). A couple of things, if anyone is going to be doing any major engine work you'll likely not be needing 250ft lbs of torque or torquing head bolts. Most range from 50 to 80 ft lbs and then degrees. I hope not that someone will be torquing lug nuts with the 1/2 or an axle nut being that's also being unrealistic as it's "not" really meant for that. These torque wrenches are made for precision and accuracy which is for torquing major engine components. The 1/2 isn't really needed in any Automotive settings unless you are working on bigger trucks that require a higher torque BUT if example torquing a head bolt that needs to be torqued to 115 ft lbs and you have this 3/8 digital. Use a standard 1/2 torque wrench then if needed go back to the degrees on the 3/8. So there are ways around it but have to be creative. I purchased 3/8 only because it better suited the torque specifications i was finding rather than 1/2 but both of them have the same features just different torque valves.
Now more about the torque wrench: This 3/8 can torque in N-m or kg-cm, in-lb., ft-lbs and also degrees. The head is a fixed head and doesn't flex but remember you would be paying more for it. It does torque in forward or reverse and have a quick release lever. The torque wrench does have built in a vibration and buzzer indicating when you have reached or about to reach a desired torque. The vibration is quite decent and will be felt under "normal situations". It also does come in a very solid well built metal case that protects the unit which is nice as this isn't a unit you'll want to toss in a drawer. Setting the torque is easy and it can change the specified torque setting and then change the desired torque all done but up and down arrows. Finally the last thing is degrees which most are probably wondering, the unit does torque in degrees so example specs call for 40 ft lbs plus additional 25 degrees. After the 40 has been reached set to degrees and after a quick calibration it's ready. The degrees keeps track on the display so example you need to ratchet it back it will keep the degrees you left off at which is extremely helpful in a crammed engine bay.
Overall, the degrees it why i really purchased this torque wrench as i already have 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 non digital torque wrenches but when dealing with precision and accuracy then this is the way to go. The quality is very decent and build seems also decent as haven't had any major problems with it. The boot up does take about 1 maybe 1 and a half minutes but after that it's ready to go. The degrees takes some time to boot up because of the sensor inside maybe it has to calibrate the internals but overall it doesn't take that long. In the end, it's well made torque and would totally recommend it to anyone looking for one.
Update: Been using for a few months now and used it a variety of times on many different jobs. One particular job i was doing was 2017 Chevrolet Camero as i was doing a front timing cover on 2.0L. Was reassembling and 5 out of the bolts holding the timing cover were torque to yield (TTY) and torque called for 11 ft-lbs + 140 degrees. Torque reached to 11 ft-lbs and about half way through the 140 degrees the bolt snapped into the block. These bolts were brand new fasteners from GM. I had to remove the timing cover and spent 1 hour getting the bolts out. This made me extremely question the accuracy of the torque wrench. I now don't even touch it because i am doubtful of the accuracy. I emailed the company "ACdelco Tools" and never received a response about it, the next thing i will be doing is emailing Amazon as this isn't the outcome i was expecting. The tool and interface is great but for the accuracy the tool is far off. Just thought i would share my experience hoping to deter others from the same issues as its disappointing spending good money for products that end up to be garbage which is why it went from 5 stars to 1.
