About this item
- 20 Sheets of Cold-Pressed, Textured Watercolor Paper: Our Arteza Round Watercolor Pad can be used as a drawing pad, sketching pad, or painting pad.
- Heavyweight 300 gsm Paper that Won’t Warp or Buckle [7 Inch Diameter - 20 sheets] Other brands’ paper will buckle after painting, but our cold press watercolor pad holds paint and water at the required absorbency rate.
- Easy to Tear Out Pages: We didn’t glue the cover to the painting pad, so there is no tearing when unpacking the pad, in comparison to most round watercolor pads.
- Designed and Created by Artists: Here at Arteza, we are passionate about creating products that inspire. For us, art is an expression of the human experience. That’s why we work to make our art supplies accessible to all people.
- Art Supplies for Everyone: Arteza was built on providing quality painting, drawing & art supplies for all ages and levels. Find tons of arts and crafts accessories, paint sets, drawing supplies, and more for all your general needs as an artist.

I have a couple tests I usually do when trying out a new paper-the mud test and the fieldtest. The mud test just gives me an idea of what to expect before I commit to a real painting- so I throw a lot of water and pigment at the paper over the course of three days.
Unfortunately, my block has some serious glue issues, and in both the mud test and the fieldtest, the sheet I was painting on pulled free with almost the first wash of water- not something you want out of a watercolor block. Fortunately, in both instances, it dried fairly flat.
My pad also came with a noticeable (particularly when you add paint) scar on the first sheet, so I have some concerns about the quality control going on at the manufacturer.
I have a more illustrative/cartoony art style (I’m a comic artist), but I love using watercolor for my art and comics. Compared to many other cotton rag watercolor papers, particularly Paul Ruben’s round block and Toscano’s Magnani 1404, I found this paper to be pulpy. It didn’t take pencil well. It didn’t take brush pen well. It doesn’t really take granulation (it comes across as just muddy and dirty), and it doesn’t take layers well (they just lift right off the page). It doesn’t like masking fluid (I used removable Winsor and Newton masking fluid, and it just chewed up my paper when I removed it), but the plus side is, it removes easily from the block with a palette knife.
Basically, I can’t recommend this paper- you can’t trust it to do what you want it to do. If you’re looking for a decent cotton rag block, Magnani 1404 is good!
