It's small and mighty!! I added a keyring to it so I can wear it around my neck. I wish it came with instructions because I don't know how to delete conversations. It's easy to select a language. I speak into it and it prints and talks what I said into another language pretty quickly. It works pretty good even without internet. I'd say this is worth the money.

We tried at last count more than 8 different translator devices of different makers and this one is the best of the best for us. We like the design and the feel of the product, feels expensive. Pocketalk Classic does exactly what it advertises, translate. The bells and whistles added to the features list on other translators were just too much for my mother in law to operate and a siphon off the quality of it intended use. This one is very easy to use, straight forward in concept and execution, and so far has always been accurate; which we found was actually quite important. Best of the best regarding volume, size, simplicity, performance, and integration into a social or family setting. Highly recommended.

I'd hoped to use this while traveling in Vietnam, but it was a total fail. NO global connectivity and it HAS to be connected to wifi all the time. This is an obvious screw-up. How can I ask for the wifi password when I don't speak the language to be able ask for the password?

In conclusion, stay away, don't waste your money. This was a big, BIG disappointment and I can't stress this enough. I won't say it ruined my trip, but my trip could have been SO SO SO much better if this thing had worked the way they promise it does.

I give it one star, and even that's being generous.

Why did I give this only 1 star?

The main reason is that it came with a "Global SIM" that expired over a year ago, making this thing nearly useless.

This translator is supposed to come with a "Built In Two Year Data Plan: Travel and communicate confidently in 133 countries". But when I turn this on and go to the Connectivity option, I get a message stating that the SIM expired on August 8th, 2021. (I'm writing this on Sept 7, 2022).

So the phone plan doesn't work at all. Without a valid SIM card the only way to use it is over wifi.

That's fine for when you're in a fixed location (assuming you can get the wifi password) but without the phone plan it's useless for going out and about, ordering food in restaurants, buying stuff in a store, asking for directions, etc etc.

Essentially it reduces the usefulness of the translator by about 95%.

I've ordered a replacement that should get here before I leave for Vietnam and we'll see if that one has an expired SIM or not, and I'll update my review when that happens.

I use this to travel for business to South America. I am learning Spanish, but have a long way to go. My biggest complaint with this device is it only works maybe 50% of the time. It does not seem to matter if it is connected to wifi, or cell service, it just does not pick up what I am saying 1/2 the time. It is not that it is translating inaccurately, it is not picking up the words and translating at all.

I end up using my phone many of the time and just reading or showing the person what my screen says.

I buy everyhing from Amazon, and for all products, there are always negative reviews so sometimes you never really know what you're going to get. I just got this translator today, and played around with it, and in my opinion, it seems to be great. I plan to use it for Italian however I tested the device myself today using French since I don't know any Italian, but I do know some French. I tried testing the translations in both directions, and it picked up what I said accurately both in English and in French with no problems. I only used simple sentences because for travel purposes that is all I anticipate using. I'm not planning on engaging in deep and lengthy intellectual conversations with this thing. Just stuff like "where is the train station" or "is there an ice cream shop nearby", etc. When I return from my trip in a couple of months, I can update this review with some real-world experiences and see if it stands up to the job.

I bought this rather expensive device with the hope it would help me to learn a new language faster.

It is pretty simple to use and it works to some extent. However, it is often inaccurate, so you have to speak the sentence you want to translate into the phone a few times before it recognises it correctly.

I found that a free App I was able to download onto my phone does exactly the same job, except it recognises and translates speech much more quickly and accurately.

If this device had an added benefit like a hands free voice option which works properly (the one on this doesn't) , you might be able to justify buying this, but It is just not worth the money - not even £20 in my opinion, when you can download a free app which works better!

So it does translate but does it translate well? Definitely not. My native language and others it isnt really capable of doing much especially at that price point and ive checked their site for info. All the languages i needed and their accents were provided supposedly in the system. My dad needed it and he uses an app for free that does a better translation when he does international buisness stuff. You would assume a free app would do much worse how does that even make sense. Since that was the case we had to return it and my dad continued using his free app on his iphone.

Overall, very slow, wrong translation and interpretation , accent is incorrect and around 250 dollars for preforming worse than a free iphone app. Device is small and slippery, has minimal software capabilities, hardware is just as bad.
If something preforms worse than a free iphone app for a 250 price range than it tells all it needs to.
I dont recommend this product.
