Its great that they offered both the bass wood for practice, and a harder cherry wood so I was able to use what I learned on the cherry. Both are beautiful (pic attached), but the cherry has a much stronger grain appearance and is a harder wood to carve.I did buy a tiny saw to cut off the excess of block above the tail when I did the cherry wood bird, but other than that (optional) part, the kit is complete with everything you need for both pieces.I'm now eager to try some of the other BeaverCraft kits to learn other techniques.     I did buy a tiny saw to cut off the excess of block above the tail when I did the cherry wood bird, but other than that (optional) part, the kit is complete with everything you need for both pieces.

    I'm now eager to try some of the other BeaverCraft kits to learn other techniques. After that, maybe, I hope to carve my own designs.

    UPDATE: I was offered a replacement kit, and this one works a lot better. Wood is soft and the blades work. I'm changing the rating from 1 to 3 because dull blades is a common issue from other reviews, if you buy beware because you risk getting a dud.

    Both blocks of wood are hard to carve, and the knife is so dull it won't cut anything, I even tried using the strop and looked up tutorials on how to sharpen a blade. I'm really bummed because I was looking forward to picking this up as a hobby.

    Kit itself is alright. Doesnt come with glue so i just drew on the design. Knife is quite uncomfortable and i ended up wrapping the tape around it to make it more comfy. Besides that and the sheer fact the knife sent makes it hard to carve, its good for someone with a lot of patience. Would much rather a larger knife for large sections and a detailing knife.

    The seller had contacted me, they sent me a new kit as well as a set of knives as an apology. The new bird kit works amazing. The knife in this one works perfectly, I must have recieved a dud. Great customer service from this seller .

    Ho comprato questo kit dopo aver visto la pubblicità da qualche parte. La scatola contiene tutto l'occorrente, un coltellino affilato, il modello in carta da ritagliare e applicare sul legno con la colla vinilica, tutto il necessario per affilare la lama, qualche cerotto e della benda elastica da usare come salva dita (è molto più comoda dei guanti appositi che ho comunque comprato a parte dopo il primo taglio in un punto in cui la benda non può essere applicata), due blocchetti di legno (uno morbido e uno molto duro, di ciliegio), il necessario per la finitura, carta vetro di varia grana, la cera per il tocco finale, le istruzioni dettagliate. Devo dire che seguendo le istruzioni non ho avuto troppe difficoltà: a mio avviso la parte difficile è il becco (non spiega come fare e nemmeno il video che mettono a disposizione). Il problema importante è dato dalla durezza del legno. Credo per errore di aver iniziato dal ciliegio e stavo quasi per gettare la spugna perché le mani mi facevano male e il coltellino sembrava non scalfire il blocchetto...poi ho trovato un trucchetto su un forum. Il legno può essere istantaneamente ammorbidito utilizzando una soluzione di acqua e alcool al 50% questo facilita enormemente il lavoro. Attenzione, la parte superiore del disegno va applicata DOPO aver sagomato la parte laterale altrimenti il foglietto risulterà troppo lungo. Enjoy!
