The big advantage of these converters is they allow air circulation across the SSD. All the trayless 3.5" bays have rear-mounted fans that draw air from front to back, and these converters are designed in such a way as to make good use of this cooling air. This a big relief because even though SSDs (and regular 2.5" drives) are low-power, they can still generate enough heat in an enclosed space to cause damage.
Out of curiosity, I tried fitting the converter into an internal 3.5" bay, and the holes were indeed a tad bit off (enough to have to break out a drill). Still more curious, I scrounged around and found 3 old cases with 3.5" floppy bays. Voila. The holes aligned perfectly and the fit was spot on. I guess the lesson here is if you're drill-challenged, find an old case with a 3.5" floppy bay.
I like these converters so much, I'm buying a bunch more.
Oh, one more thing, inserting and removing drives into the converter can get kind of sticky. It takes patience and gentle rocking motions.
the system is a tad cheap in design as the door latch is very cheap and I am suprised I have not actually broken it yet, but for the parts that matter they did good, it slides in any 2.5" sata drive and makes it look like a plastic 3.5" sata drive in all dimensions that matter, it includes a "drive connected" light that uses the activity pin and is kinda useless(they didn't make it react to changes of that pin) but other than quirks like that it is perfect for putting 2.5" drives into a 3.5" hot-swap type tray
One suggestion I have is to “Disable” the hot swap feature on your Primary or system drive SATA channel (to avoid accidentally disconnecting your operating Windows drive and forcing a reboot or BSOD). Just saying….
Most modern motherboards appear to have SATA “Hot Swap” features available. However, as I’ve recently discovered, the default settings in the bios are generally set to “Disabled”. Because my entire purpose for this device is to sort, transfer, copy, consolidate and duplicate info from many separate drives and formats onto fewer media types, I needed the additional speed of a direct SATA channel communication.
CONS: The plastic construction "feels" flimsy and weak. Be careful opening and closing the converter door, the hinge is plastic and secured only with a thin metal screw. Not sure how long it will last but take care regardless!

I wish they made a version that converts 2.5" sata drives to IDE. I could throw it into my older systems or my Playstation 2. It wouldn't even be that much work to repurpose the design. Think about it, Startech!

"Although mobile racks can enable a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) drive to connect using a standard Serial ATA (SATA) connector, the hard drive controller must be SAS compatible to properly support SAS drives. SAS controllers can work with SAS and SATA drives, but most SAS drives will only work with a SAS controller."

Semplice funzionale ottimo raid 1.
