It’s not a typical soccer game, a la FIFA, it’s more of a simplified arcade experience.
But the game is lacking in speed or excitement in this area, to me.
I was hoping for an NBA Jam style experience, gameplay wise. It’s a little too clunky and slow for that. Sure, you can tackle and charge players without penalty, as far as I can tell, but the game moves very slowly. Not just the characters, but the pace, overall.
Slightly an issue of difficulty, but it’s not exactly difficulty, as it is persistent AI that will always be on top of you.
Not sure if there’s some kind of catch-up AI at play, but I assume there must be, I didn’t have nearly the same issue playing against human opponents.
Very few games were runaway wins against the AI, even when I was “outplaying” them the entire game.
Taking regular shots is almost useless, especially when you’re up in score.
And unless you build a custom team of ringers, which I think you’d need to also create on your own, you’ll only have one or two players with a special skill shot, at any given time.
I wanted to like this game more but the chugging pace and lack of any depth to make up for it dragged the score down, it was brought back up by the fun factor, especially multiplayer, and the overall charm of the game.
