About this item
Completely new substrate made from rare and sparse source of Japanese plant-based black soil derived from decomposed leaf mulch
Rich in organic elements and nutrients that creates conditions ideal for healthy growth of aquatic plants and has a good influence on the physiological functions of fish and shrimp
Aqua Soil Powder Type can be used in conjunction with the normal type by placing a layer of powder over the normal type or using the powder type in areas where you intend to plant carpeting plants
Powder Type has a much finer grain size, so it provides a greater sense of scale is also useful for achieving the ‘Miniature Landscape‘ style of the Nature Aquarium
It is also beneficial for carpeting plants and grasses – we have found that it allows the small roots of the plants to penetrate and anchor into the substrate more effectively, so it improves plant growth and reduces the risk of the carpet ‘rising’ from the substrate – we know how devastating it can be when your beautiful carpet of Hemianthus lifts away from the substrate!
Designed to reproduce the image of Amazon, creates an aquascape depicting the fertile South American rainforest with the dynamic alternation of rainy and dry seasons. A high pH level (alkaline) of the substrate causes difficulties for aquatic plants in consuming nutrients. The Aqua Soil Series decreases the hardness of the water and lowers the PH level to the degree at which most aquatic plants can consume nutrients and comfortably grow. Aqua Soil granules maintain their shape and density for long periods underwater securing good circulation of water and oxygen through the substrate. With Aqua Soil, growing difficult plants such as Tonina sp. becomes easier, and it is ideal for fish demanding soft water. (This product is recommended for advanced hobbyists, for beginners, we recommend Aqua Soil Amazonia Light)

*Please note that as general fish keeping practice, aquarium must be properly cycled with proper water chemistry before fish and shrimp are introduced. Proper water chemistry, temperature, lighting, and filtration are also essential for healthy growth of fish and plants.

This product needs a disclaimer, that it will take a very long period of time for cloudiness to clear up, if it ever does. I've had this in my tank for 2 months, followed instructions completely, and was very careful in adding it to tank and adding water. Cloudiness developed within a few days, and despite using an Fx4 canister filter, adding filter floss and Purigen, adding an HOB and sponge filter, it is still as cloudy as it was during the first week. I will be scrapping this set-up at a great cost, as I’ve given up hope that it will ever clear up!
Used one 9l bag of Aqua Soil with 7 20lb bags of Eco Complete where the plants would be and covered it with the Eco complete since it is a very fine grain which is great for root growth. The ammonia started the biologic quickly and after 2 weeks, the ammonia levels were already to 0. I used this product in the areas. 150 gal tank
So far this soil has worked well for my tank. Already getting a good amount of plant growth, even though the tank is still new and cycling with just plants, no fish. Water tested high ammonia and nitrate, but there is no bacteria built up. I expect it to drop after a few more weeks. Using this along with Eco compete, so a bit difficult to give a completely accurate review.
This is really good substrate in combination with Eco-complete for planted tanks. I use it currently in a 29 gallon and a 36 gallon bow front, and my plants are flourishing! Great value for the money. Definitely recommend this.
