Once we realized just how much she loves to play we started buying them 3 and 4 at a time because the ones we'd get for $2-$3 a piece at the pet store seemed to only last a few weeks before she managed to crack them.
I was leery about buying these based on the reviews but figured it was worth a shot and would at least save me a trip to the pet store since we were on the last one.
I honestly wish I'd found them sooner!! Ooohh the money we could have saved. When I took them from the box I grabbed the purple one.
That was a month and a half ago and the purple one is still going strong. A little chewed on the edges but no cracks and still flies great! At this rate it'll be a year or more before I have to buy more and I'm super happy with that.
I'm still puzzled by the reviews claiming these discs are 'brittle' and 'warped'.. all I can think of is they are storing them outside. We don't. We take it outside to play with the dog then hang it up inside when we're done so she's not chewing on it randomly and they're not exposed to excessive temperatures or sunlight. But we did the same thing with the pet store branded ones and they just didn't last nearly as long as these have so far.
I'm a happy momma with a super happy doggo! Thanks Gamecraft!
I bought these discs for the why-not of it and they turned out to be perfect for me. For one thing my dog was totally stoked to get 6 new token-objects to carry around the house and be proud of. But more importantly since frisbees/discs were literally everywhere now at home, he wanted to play more with them.
Pro:
You get a lot of these and they're decent. If the price goes up a lot then I wouldn't think so. I paid $15 (plus tax) for the set of 6, and for that price they're awesome.
Con:
Once your dog really starts chewing on them you should throw them away since the plastic is sort of brittle and breaks into shards once they work their way past the outer ridge.
***
These are great for playing fetch with dogs. I have bought a few rounds of these discs and highly recommend them for the following reasons:
1. They are durable plastic that withstands (fairly well) the repeated biting when the dog catches the disc. To be clear, the bites still leave dents and little scratches each time, but as long as the dog brings it back for the next throw and doesn't just sit and chew on it, then they hold up surprisingly well for a cheap, disposable disc. Most importantly, the disc doesn't shatter after the first catch.
2. They fly straight, which is important if your dog likes catching it in the air. Even after the disc is covered in bite marks, they fly remarkably straight or well enough to stay airborne long enough for the dog to catch. Usually, the disc has to be retired because the bite marks start hurting your hands, not because it's too deformed to fly.
For reference, my dog is a 35 lbs Beagle mix, and so his bites probably aren't as destructive as larger dogs. However, at the end of the day these discs last longer and perform better than others I have tried over the years.
