Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Learn more how customers reviews work on AmazonCustomers say
Customers like the quality, color and ease of use of the paint. For example, they mention it's high quality, easy to apply and that the directions are clear. They're also happy with drying time, and smoothness. That said, opinions are mixed on value.
AI-generated from the text of customer reviews
Customers are satisfied with the smoothness of the paint. They mention that it goes on very smooth using a foam roller, and the application was very smooth. Some say that the second coat went on smooth and easy, and that the brush strokes blended in without issue. They also mention that the paint has the smoothest finish and gives you professional results.

1. We used Nuvo Cabinet Paint in Coconut Espresso (bought through Amazon). The paint is not cheap, but I loved the color, durability and ease of application.
2. Remove doors and hardware. (They claim you can do it without this step, but I personally think it would be virtually impossible to avoid paint drips on the hardware.)
3. Mask off walls and appliances that will come in contact with edge of cabinets so you don't get paint on them.
4. Set up a good work space to do an "assembly line" process of working on the doors. We did it both outside on the deck and inside on the table (with a plastic drape to protect the table).
5. Sand off the gloss or use a deglosser (sold at Home Depot). We tried sanding with sanding paper and sanding blocks, but it took FOREVER. The deglosser seemed to work well, as the lower cabinets were done months ago and are holding up nicely. You also have to sand or degloss the cabinet box/base/frames. (This step helps the paint adhere, so it doesn't chip and peel.)
6. Paint the doors. We preferred the look of a paint brush (since we couldn't make it look like a sprayed on factory finish). Keep the brush strokes going in the same direction/pattern so it looks consistent. We did 2-3 coats PER SIDE. This takes a while!
7. Paint the cabinet box/base/frames. This took 2-3 coats as well.
8. Hardware. We used hardware that was the same size as the previous ones. This saved a little time. For the hinges, we matched them as closely as possible in shape, size and style, but they were slightly different. I had my wonderful fiance help me re-hang the doors. That was something I could NOT do on my own.
9. Paint bloops. Despite trying really hard to not have any runs, drips or bloops...they did happen. We got an inexpensive rotary sander to grind them down, then touched up the paint.
10. The last picture is just a close up of the paint, hardware and granite. We love the final look.
Q&A
Q: Is this as good as new cabinets? A: No, because you can't get a perfect "factory finish" look. However, it is much less expensive than buying and installing cabinets.
Q. How much did it cost? A: About $250 for everything. The paint kit and extra pint was about $100 (from Amazon). The hardware was about $100 (from Home Depot). We also bought deglosser (less than $10) and misc painting supplies (about $40).
Q. How long did it take? A: About 24 hours: taking off doors and hardware (2 hours), deglossing doors and cabinets (3 hours), painting doors/2-3 coats each side (6 hours), painting cabinet frames/2-3 coats (6 hours), attaching hardware and re-hanging doors (3 hours), sanding paint bloops (2 hours), touch up paint (2 hours).
Q. Was it worth it? A. Absolutely! It was a LOT of work, but the end result looks so much better than the honey oak, even with some of the slight imperfections in the finish. Also, the paint has been very durable...no chips or peeling. Plus, I have "touch up" paint if I ever need to fix something!

I don't have much experience with other brands to compare, the only cabinet paint I tried is Bear from HomeDepot - but this one is way better.
Another thing: instead of the included brush and roller I used better quality tools.
Highly recommended!

- this paint was a PLEASURE to work with!
- covered easily and well. Very nice self-levelling
- with any cupboard resurfacing, sanding and possible primer is important, IMO. I would not task any paint with enduring/sticking without first spending time on prep.
- sanded to the wood and primed with a standard wood primer
- colour saturation from this paint is LOVELY. Only 1 coat of paint left rich/solid colour
- almost abandoned when I first opened the can and the colour appeared grey. Went on far more blue luckily
- only used 3/4 of 1 can. Covered VERY well being rolled and brushed on.
- covered with a semi-gloss top coat (would recommend spraying as it did lift the paint when I tried to dab a little pool. Nuvo paint had dried for 24 hours prior to sprayed topcoat)
- I did NOT experience the issues mixing this paint that others have. I gave it a GOOD shake and a stir, then painted. I didn't have to continue to stir. There was a light 'halo' line when the paint was in the tray, but it did not impact the paint covering evenly.
I'll update this review in 3 months to update on durability, but I am fairly confident with the top coat, it will stay lovely for a long time.
