One Day Gone: A Mylas Grey Mystery (Mylas Grey Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,477 ratings

Mylas Grey is a private investigator but don’t call him a private detective.

That title belongs to his father—not to him.

Mylas is the Chief Investigator for Senator Davis Allen, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. His job is to do background investigations for the President’s judicial nominees, and that’s the only kind of investigation he’s interested in doing.

But then Lizzie, the Senator’s daughter, goes missing from her campus apartment.

And suddenly, just like that, Mylas finds himself back in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri, investigating her disappearance as if he were a run-of-the-mill private detective.

Nothing about the investigation is easy.

Discovering a motive isn’t easy . . .

Lizzie has a reputation for doing the unexpected, and she could have just left town for a few days without telling anyone. On the other hand, she could have done something stupid and gotten herself into serious trouble.

Staying focused on the investigation isn’t easy . . .

When Mylas meets a beautiful photographer at his brother’s church, and she offers to help him find Lizzie, he finds himself getting a little distracted from the investigation—well, maybe more than a little distracted.

Revisiting his past isn’t easy . . .

As Mylas is forced to spend time in his hometown, he begins to question his career choice, his rejection of Christianity, and his failed personal relationships.

Solving the mystery of Lizzie’s disappearance isn’t easy . . .

It gets even more complicated when Mylas learns Lizzie was researching an article for her campus newspaper about a judge with a secret past. Is the judge connected to Lizzie’s disappearance? Did Lizzie’s boyfriend play a role? What about Lizzie’s roommate?

So many suspects. So little time.

Book I in the Mylas Grey Mystery Series is a clean, suspenseful, fast-paced mystery, involving complex relationships, a fledgling romance, and a man’s search for happiness in all the wrong places.

If you enjoy an engaging, multilayered mystery with a vulnerable, endearing hero, someone who will make you cry one minute and laugh the next, you’ll love this book!

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Luana Ehrlich's excellent writing style gives life to an enthralling mystery that I could hardly put down. I have always admired the straightforward, realistic bent of her writing, and this book is no exception. Her details about the inner-workings of Washington D.C. make you feel like you are there in the room with the characters, working through the clues and developments as they come. I particularly liked the character of Mylas Grey and his sense of directness and humor."--Reviewer, Mystery/Suspense author, D.L. Wood on Goodreads and Amazon.

This is the first book in a series about a US Senator's Private Investigator. The story takes off with a bang! We are introduced to the characters that make this series work and the important locations in both Missouri and our Nation's Capitol. It is a fast-moving story that kept my interest so well that it was hard to put the book down. As with all of this author's work, this is a clean and action-packed story. There is no foul language, no sex, no gore, and minimal violence. The story is also faith-filled. Many of the main characters are strong Christians. Our hero accepts Christ as his Savior in this book, so I am certain future stories will delve into his baby steps as a Christian. It does not 'beat them over the head with the Bible', but it does discuss Christianity in a practical and day-to-day manner. I am off to read book 2 and will likely binge-read the series.

The characters were interesting and the story had enough twists to keep me reading. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Clean mystery romance. Loved the Christian aspect. Coming to know the Lord for each person is different in many ways. God uses different vessels to be the catalyst for what others have prayed for. The excitement and terror of a missing family member. The journey to find that person before something terrible happens. Leads to an exciting read.

I liked that this book was real. But I mean it could easily happen the way it’s written, but it kept my attention, and I couldn’t put it down. Nyla’s is open like few guys are. And Whitney sounds like every guy’s dream of the kind of woman to spend your life with, enjoying each other and strengthening each other. I think you will enjoy this book immensely. I did!

Mylas Grey is used to investigating people's background. But when the senator asks him to find his missing daughter, Mylas feels out of his element. As he starts putting together a plan, he finds out that the judge he was already investigating may be part of the puzzle.
Luana Ehrlich writes excellent mystery and adventure. As a Christian, I enjoyed the fact that her books are also clean and have a Godly message.
