My dentist recommended Shyn

My dentist recommended Shyn
Have been using Shyn for a month now and it's been a game-changer! I've been using a manual toothbrush all my life and didn't see why I should replace it with an electric toothbrush. I found out about Shyn when I went into see my dentist for a check up. He recommended Shyn sonic toothbrush to me because it came with a pressure sensor and was comparable to a Sonicare but half the price! Come to find out my gums have been receding from brushing my teeth too hard with a manual toothbrush. I'm so happy with my purchase -- I also went directly to Shyn's site as it enabled me to subscribe to brush heads on a quarterly basis and have them sent directly to my house.

I had one of those super expensive Phillips Sonicare brushes (the stupid expensive version). It was awesome. I loved it. After 2 years it broke and I decided not to buy a new one because of the cost.

I used a quip brush for about a year (awful compared to a sonic brush) and finally decided to buy this brush.

The shyn is as good as the expensive sonicare. It feels great. It cleans great. It’s got great features.

Stop reading these reviews and buy this brush now. Right now. Do it.

Love this toothbrush! Definitely clean better than my now retired Sonicare. I decided to try because the brush heads are less expensive to replace and the subscription option. As a bonus, the dental picks are awesome, too!

Listen, I really, really wanted to love this toothbrush. (what a weird thing to say) So much that I bought two of them thinking the first one was a fluke. When it worked, it worked great - great charging system, teeth felt sparkling clean, and I thought it worked well compared to much more expensive units. That said, let's get to the experience that ruined this for me.

The first one of these I bought worked great for about four months, then the power button just went haywire. Sometimes it would turn on if I squeezed it really hard, smacked it with my hand, etc etc. Thought it was a fluke, ordered the second one. I like to give things a fair shake.

Enter Shyn #2. Six months of toothbrushing bliss with no problems. Thinking the first one was a one-off breakage, I was happy.

Until I tried to take it on vacation...

What an odd thing to mention on a toothbrush review, right? No. When I say that this thing started randomly turning on in the middle of the night, in my luggage, in a shared vacation rental with five other people, when I knew I had to get on a plane the next day, you can understand my distress - because:

A) I don't want my toothbrush going off in the middle of the night by itself with no way to shut it off, because honestly, this kind of vibrating device sounds a lot like other vibrating devices, it's annoying when you're trying to sleep, and

B) I'm absolutely terrified that this thing is going to start making noise in my carry-on the next day and I'm going to end up in Guantanamo Bay or worse. If Fight Club didn't lie to me, the TSA isn't too keen on vibrating luggage. But then, neither am I, because of point A.

So, I had to do what any reasonable human, on vacation, and without access to tools or any sort of override / battery disconnect would do: I took Shyn #2 out on the balcony of my nice California beach rental, at one in the morning, and smashed it with a rock under a beautiful full moon.

Then I bought a device from a competitor that's worked great ever since.

So, clearly I don't recommend this toothbrush. I think the basic design of a toothbrush should include, you know, being waterproof so the electronics don't short out. Yes, I confirmed this was the issue on the carcass of my smashed Shyn that fateful evening. It was wet and corroded. Terrible design.

This all would probably explain why you can't purchase this anymore on Amazon - but they still sell them directly, so hopefully this review keeps someone from buying this. (unless, of course, they redesigned the waterproofing - in which case, go to town)

My teeth always felt clean after brushing, but after using Shyn for the first time, it really felt like I just left the dentist. You know that extra clean post-dentist, teeth cleaning feeling? Well that's what Shyn did, after just one use. We all know you're supposed to brush your teeth for 2 minutes, but Shyn actually makes sure you do. Once you turn it on, it's timed for 2 mins. So there's no guessing games. We now have three Shyns in our family and as soon as our youngest is old enough, we'll get him one too!

I love this toothbrush, it is pretty neat to adjust the power on it and helps with so many things. The toothbrush replacements are pretty cheap as well.
