Customers like the quality of the pet supplies. They say it's a very nice fountain, with an ingenious design. The bowl is a simpler design, with less parts to clean. It holds quite a bit of water, and has just a faint trickling water sound on the lowest flow. It's tip proof and has a unibody design that never leaks. Customers also say that their pets' kidney values look great after using the fountain.
"...Looks fine, works fine, I can't really say more because my cat is still getting used to it. I will update later...." Read more
"...Good solid and simple design...." Read more
"...and have been tumbled for weeks they are polished, smooth, and shiny; with no roughness, but they do have irregularity and diversity...." Read more
"...discovered that the reservoir attachment (sold separately) is a piece of junk and it slowly leaked and damaged my floor. Grr...." Read more
Customers find the pet supplies very easy to assemble and use. They mention that the instructions are surprisingly easy to understand. The reservoir is easy to attach and it takes no time at all to put together. Customers also say that it's extremely convenient and saves them time on day-to-day work.
"...The reservoir keeps it full for 2-3 days and while it is not overly difficult to use, I don't care for the design...." Read more
"...Assembly is very easy and the instructions surprisingly easy to understand. Assembling the unit took less than 2 minutes...." Read more
"...Still, lets start with the pros:First, there's less day-to-day work. You can go days, even a week, without touching it at all...." Read more
"...The instructions are fairly complete. The entire process should take about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the noise of the pet supplies. Some mention that the unit itself is very quiet, while others say that the vibrations on a hard surface makes the pump very loud. The loud sound is caused by the motor vibrating against the sides of the fountain.
"...The machine is noisy ONLY when the water level is too low. The fountain is quiet when the water reaches up to about 1/2 inch from the rim...." Read more
"...that would disturb their cats, but with the unit I got it was pretty much quiet. The trickling water made more noise then the pump...." Read more
"...The new Original Fountain is a lot noisier than our first one. Can't figure why. The motor is louder and vibrates more. Cats don't seem to care...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the messiness of the pet supplies. Some mention that it disassembles easily to clean, while others say that it's not constructed for convenient cleaning. The reservoir itself needs to be cleaned, and the fountain needs to disassemble and thoroughly washed. The water starts getting gross after around 12 days.
"...The filter is easy to remove, run under the sink to clean and replace. The trap in the bowl is easy to clear with fingers...." Read more
"...Also, regular cleaning maintenance is needed. One of my cats is a long hair Maine Coon-ish type cat...." Read more
"...very small nooks and crannies that could get slimy, it seems very easy to clean...." Read more
"...-Pump tube to get the water to the top is really hard to clean! I've been using a baby bottle brush kit, which works decently...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the durability of the pet supplies. Some mention it seems sturdy, is made pretty good, and lasts a long time for the price. However, others say that it broke down after only a three or four months. The bowl breaks down easily, and the adjustment tab looks like a flimsy piece of black plastic. Cleaning is annoying and the fountains break down after a longer period of use.
"...the gasket at first, but then we found that the plastic housing around the gasket was cracked. We really liked this model. It is easy to maintain...." Read more
"...The supplied filter looks to be better quality...." Read more
"...That coating will wear off and is toxic...." Read more
"...They last a long time for the price when operated properly!Bad news: The motor is really super loud when the water runs low...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the value of the pet supplies. Some mention that it's good for what it cost, the filters are relatively inexpensive to buy, and it'll help them cut back on vet bills. However, others say that it cost too much money for a mediocre product, the new filters are somewhat high in price, and the pump looks and feels much cheaper.
"...This fountain is hefty and the size of the rim makes it pretty much impossible for him to move it with his little mouth...." Read more
"...He really seems to like it. It's definitely helped us cut back on vet bills... though I still take him often, he's been hospitalized once for UTI-..." Read more
"...Was not worth the savings for the hassel. The filter clogs up twice as fast, water doesn't stay as fresh, water does not flow as well...." Read more
"...The filters are not that expensive as far as filters go and unit will still function without a filter for people who do not wish to use or cannot..." Read more
Customers have mixed opinions about the water flow of the pet supplies. Some mention that it ensures proper hydration, and their pets are drinking more water. They also feel that the water is aerated more thoroughly and continuously, and that it keeps the water contained very well. However, others say that the running water isn't adequate enough aeration to keep the water sitting in the reservoir, and the water evaporates faster.
"...While the reservoir is much easier to fill, as it has a flat top so it sits level, like a cup when filling it, I find the reservoir for the Platinum..." Read more
"...-The water evaporates faster...." Read more
"...I also really like the size of the bowl/basin area. It keeps the water contained very well and we've had no issues with splashes...." Read more
"...both cats started curiously circling in and started drinking without fear almost immediately...." Read more

The machine is noisy ONLY when the water level is too low. The fountain is quiet when the water reaches up to about 1/2 inch from the rim. If your fountain is whining and groaning then add water.
Also, regular cleaning maintenance is needed. One of my cats is a long hair Maine Coon-ish type cat. Her hair gets everywhere and the fountain intake is no exception. There are finger grips on the housing so one can take apart the fountain housing and clean around the little motor. I have to clean it about once a month to remove kitty fuzz as well as kibble crumbs and general mold growth and hard water deposits that have accumulated. Every time I do this it results in an efficient little kitty drinking fountain.
I don't worry too much about the filter cartridges. In fact I used the ones that came with the unit and haven't bought another pack. The filters don't prevent debris from catching in the intake area and cats don't really appreciate the carbon filtered water taste. I mean, c'mon, they're cats.
The cats took a while to get used to the idea that there is a drinking fountain 24/7 and that they no longer have to beg to drink water in every sink in the house. The oldest cat took the longest time to get used to the fountain--about 2 weeks--but eventually they all adapted, though, if given the opportunity they will all still prefer to drink from the toilet.
I highly recommend this fountain.
Update:
I've had this baby for about 2 years now. I thought for sure this plastic fountain would kick the bucket w/in a year. Not so. I just have to keep it clean by taking it apart and scrubbing the scum off it as mentioned in the initial review. I've since discovered that the reservoir attachment (sold separately) is a piece of junk and it slowly leaked and damaged my floor. Grr. But the fountain itself is fine and so I tossed the reservoir attachment and just use the fountain.
When you take the fountain apart to clean it, you can even take off the little motor that's attached by suction cups and get the junk out of it. I've even been able to pry the cap off it and scrub the tiny grill.
Don't clean this fountain with harsh chemicals like bleach or 409. Just use vinegar and invest in some small wire scrub brushes.
First Review in 2011: This one is a replacement of one that we have had for quite a few years. The original unit started leaking. We replaced the gasket at first, but then we found that the plastic housing around the gasket was cracked. We really liked this model. It is easy to maintain. Maintenance will depend on how messy your cat is getting food bits and hair in the water basin. The filter is easy to remove, run under the sink to clean and replace. The trap in the bowl is easy to clear with fingers. We add about 1/2 cup of water every day. I do recommend dumping the water out and filling with fresh water regularly. The cats really do know the difference and drink a lot more when it's fresh. It's helped with some border-line bladder issues in one cat. If you get hard water build-up, use baking soda & water to make a paste to scrub the lime-scale from the bowl. The new Original Fountain is a lot noisier than our first one. Can't figure why. The motor is louder and vibrates more. Cats don't seem to care. I have a cheaper ($20) black fountain in another room, thinking that I would save some money on a second unit. Was not worth the savings for the hassel. The filter clogs up twice as fast, water doesn't stay as fresh, water does not flow as well. I would not spend the extra for the Platinum Drinkwell version, but I would definitely buy another Original or two. All six of our cats like it and use it.
