I Celebrate My Voice: It is Limitless Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, you have a voice, and it matters.

I Celebrate My Voice is a lovely introduction to what it means to use your voice. With breathtaking illustrations, this book shows young readers how limitless their voices are. By drawing examples from different animal groups, this book reaffirms to children that their voices matter and that although some communication styles can be different, they’re all equally important.
As children enter lower school, it is important for them to understand who they are, what they stand for, and how to express their opinions and values. This book promotes children's self-esteem, self-awareness, social awareness, and self-management skills that are key to their development.
A heartfelt picture book that offers delightful avenues for parents and teachers to have meaningful conversations about a child's strengths and how to use them for the greater good. It celebrates children for who they are and empowers them to share their voices.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a very good book about teaching your child that they have a voice and that voice is limited. I like that the author points out that no matter who you are, to use your voice in the best way possible. I can think of several times that children haven’t been encouraged in this, and the child missed out on so much.

I think it’s pretty awesome that this author let’s children know how important they are, no matter who they are, where they came from, these things doesn’t matter, what matters is that you use your talents they way they are ment to be used.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

I Celebrate My Voice is a picture book about discovering what your own voice is and how to make it heard in the world. I love the message this book is trying to express, the inclusion of BIPOC and disability representation, and how easy this book is to read. With a single line per page in large, bold text, this is an excellent toddler book or introductory reader.

For the kids this book is meant for, the illustrations are bold, beautiful, and interesting. They will definitely hold attention and be enjoyed time and again on repeat readings. As an artist and illustrator myself, however, something feels off. This looks like photos pulled into Photoshop, painted over to look like drawings, with the real photo's background blurred and used in place of an illustrated background. It was clear that the faces are photos, and that's fine, perhaps the characters are based on friends and family of the author that they wanted to be included. Some other elements really made me raise an eyebrow, though. The page with the sparklemuffin spider, in particular, has hard edges where the blurred background was tiled to fill more space.

Overall this is a cute book that'll entertain small kids and introduce an important concept.
