What I care about
-4k hdr
-3d capable - yup 3d works great
-perfect projection picture quality with reasonable sharpness all around
-no noticeable lag when playing games on my ps4 (I don't use any keystone lenshift adjustments etc)
-no odd picture quality issues
-quiet
-fits my placement, no more obstruction and no mounting required, distance to the throw is less than 15"
-has a nice grid pattern for helping setups
-adjustable colors, picture settings etc
-has manual or automatic projection area size adjustments using app
-laser, one bulb life of around 10 years.
-feels like solid construction and it looks nice overall. Definitely doesn't look like a cheap projector.
-probably the only decent ust 4k projector out there for this price
Cons:
-projection area adjustments can only be made with phone app
-costly hifi integrated speakers, why? I rather them knock off another $200 from the price than integrated hifi sound or at least give the option.
-the focus adjustments will not entirely make all edges sharp, some corners of the screen are sharper than others and others a bit blurry but I am doing 135" projection and possibly the screen is not entirely level
-Maybe because I'm using a white screen and not an ALR silver screen, but out of the box the colors are way off and most people won't notice this, but I did and most will too if they are aware (this may depend on screen you're projecting on). Open your laptop and youtube rgb cmyk color test. Compare those colors on the laptop to whats showing on the optoma projection. You will find that you'll need to tweak each color to make the overall colors more accurate. I did that and compared to the default settings the scenes and pictures were much more closely matching what it should look like, although still not perfect. Everyone should calibrate if possible to maximize their enjoyment of this projector, but yes, it is time consuming. However it is a one-time calibration. Out of the box is just way too inaccurate, at least for me.
-the projector is massive. It will take up an entire coffee table
-ultra short throws in general are very picky with its surfaces, so unless you have a place for a perfectly flat screen and are willing to spend at least a few hundred purchasing a screen I wouldn't get one because every minor flaw showing up on the screen will be just too annoying to enjoy. Don't spend over $3k to project on a flawed surface, it's just not worth it. I projected my old optoma uhd51a onto a textured wall and the picture quality was fine for years, no flaws noticed, but with this UST projector, I saw every bump on the wall and every crease on screens. I ended spending a few hundred more buying a screen.
-the projection height is pretty much fixed, so aligning the screen and placement is still crucial. In some ways even less flexible than straight throws.
-this thing is pretty heavy for a projector, 25 lbs.
-no dolby vision support (for the price and how recent the product is it should support all the latest formats)
-best price in its class but still relatively expensive, optima should focus on image and not try to integrate things like a hifi sound bar that ultimately bumps up the price and most likely will go unused by most customers

Sharp image compared to 1080p projectors. I have no problem coding at 1440p with a font size of 10.
Mostly in focus for the entire screen. This is very important if you want to read text on the screen. I cannot make all of the screen in focus for my other projector.
Ultra short throw is a lot easier to use than a normal projector. You can stand almost as close to the screen as you want without worrying about blocking the image.
Bright image.
Quiet.
Cons:
4K is a bit blurry. I mostly use the projector at 1440p. Also, for connections from hdmi cables, the projector supports up to 4k@30hz instead of 4k@60hz.
Even with a firmware update, there is still ~100ms lag from the projector. I noticed the lag when I use my mouse. I mostly use keyboard, so it's not bothering me that much. However, gaming with the projector is a bad idea...
Software on the projector is very weak. I used the Amazon prime video app once, which is the best app available on the system. Even that app is not easy to use.
There are bugs on the firmware. For example, when the remote is connected to the projector via Bluetooth, everytime a button is clicked after a long time of inactivity the screen will go blank for 2 seconds, and so the audio.
Overall, I think the projector is a good one.
---------------------------------------------------------
Update:
Projector is bricked after a recent firmware update.
The sound is incredible. I have yet to test it extensively, but it does get quite loud but does not vibrate the media console. The only downside I could think about is the remote in this aspect. It is slow in changing the volume. If you pair the projector to your phone, it is much better at switching from 70 to 30 or vice versa. If what you are watching is loud, voice control seems silly as you are screaming at Alexa to lower the volume. Best bet would be to use the phone.
The picture quality is superb. It is clear and crisp and everyone who has seen it is floored with how good it looks especially with a projector close to the wall. This machine has up to 3000 ANSI Lumens, which does fairly well at late morning or late afternoon. I have the projector in my living room next to a bay window (with a UV filter and non-blackout curtains) and when the sun hits the windows (afternoons), it basically washes the picture out. Mind you, I do not have a dedicated screen yet because I cant decide on an UST ALR projection screen. So right now, it is projecting on the wall. At night, it is magnificent. When it is cloudy, it still does really well.
My issue with the screen right now is the distortion. There is one portion on the upper line that is not entirely straight. I tried two different walls and there is a clear dip. I tried their on-board distortion fixing software. It is not shown when I am watching something, but it is noticeable because I keep staring at it. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I am not sure if it is a defect or natural for a UST projector.
The UI for this projector is not great. In fact, I do not depend on it. Instead, I use either a Chromecast or Roku to stream content via HDMI to watch and that has worked well.
As for the voice command, I have not been able to use it with Google because the software is missing to connect it through Google Home. Instead, I am forced to use Alexa Skills as that software/skill is available. I am not entirely sure why, but the Optoma platform/software is missing in connecting the projector to Google Home. Perhaps it was either taken away or it hasn't seamlessly connected yet. But, Alexa with the projector is doing well.
I have watched several action films (Avengers and John Wick) so far and I have been on the look out for a color wheel issue. I do not see an issue as of yet. Perhaps, I would need to keep looking for it. But, its a good thing that I have not encountered it.
It is a hefty piece of equipment and it is solidly built. There are plenty of uses for it with music streaming with Spotify and various connections for movies/gaming.
The package came in a big box housing the main box. I dont know why, but the big box is fine, but the main box had a punctured hole. Luckily, there was thick corner foams on each side, so the punctured part never physically damaged the unit. I was scared that it was damaged after waiting so long for this unit to arrive.
