Boats, Bodies and the Bee's Knees: Cape May Cozy Mysteries with a Twist, Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

When her friend’s uncle is accused of murder, Anna McGregor dives into the boating life to prove his innocence. She soon learns that while lounging on a luxury yacht might be fun, matching wits with a killer can be deadly.

Life has finally settled down for Anna. The Cape May B & B she inherited from her Great Aunt Louise is fully booked and Anna is looking forward to a successful summer. Her peace is shattered when a body washes up in Spicer Creek and the police focus their investigation on her friend’s uncle. Determined to find the truth, Anna turns to skills she developed in her previous career in medical anthropology.

Once again, Anna teams up with her best friend Sammy, her young cousin Eoin and the local librarian to use their knowledge of the town and its people to solve this crime. But the disappearance of two local teenagers reminds Anna this is the wrong time for free fishing trips or relaxing on a yacht enjoying a Bee’s Knees cocktail. She needs to find the missing teenagers and identify the killer before anyone else gets hurt.

Formerly an anthropologist, then a diplomat, then a park ranger, Jane Gorman now writes murder mysteries. Building on her knowledge of Philadelphia (her home for many years) and her varied experiences, her Adam Kaminski mystery series features a Philly cop who manages to solve complicated murders in far-flung locales, both in the U.S. and overseas.

Gorman’s books paint vivid pictures of the towns and cities where they take place, using knowledge she acquired through years of international travel. She also captures historical significance in each of her books, tying present day murders to anything from recent arguments to decades-old deceptions.

She currently lives in Cherry Hill, NJ, with her husband, who loves traveling even more than she does and has a voracious appetite for life, a cat who is a very picky eater, and a Pointer-Hound mix who wants nothing more out of life than to eat the cat.

Thank you so much for writing a wonderful story that takes place in my favorite town, Cape May. While some aspects are fictional, it still makes me smile to read about all the wonderful places (and the creative new ones you come up with!) all within a mystery book! The perfect book to make a cocktail to and read with the fire going.

Bodies, Boats & The Bee’s Knees is the second book in a new cozy mystery series featuring the lovely Victorian seaside town of Cape May, New Jersey. It was fun to revisit the main characters from the first book in the series: main character, Anna, young owner of a Bed & Breakfast in town; her best friend Sammy; the handsome handyman Luke; the young visiting Irish cousin with the unpronounceable name, Eoin; and the handsome police officer, Evan, among others. The mystery this time involves a visitor to the town, a professor at the university where Anna used to be a graduate student, who is found dead in a local canal. Cape May is one of my favorite spots in New Jersey and reading about it brings back memories. But you don’t need to be familiar with Cape May to enjoy this book. The precocious Eoin makes me laugh!

I love how the author features a different, lesser-known classic cocktail in each book. I will definitely be trying a Bee’s Knees, as it sounds scrumptious and is a simple recipe!

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A great continuation of the series. We pick up with the cast of characters introduced in the previous book, from protagonist Anna, young Eoin, friend Sammy, to Cape May itself, and immediately cast off on a cozy mystery so packed with potential motive you start wondering if Tough Cookie (Anna’s cat) might have had reason for doing something nefarious.

I liked this one better than the first one. I really came to care for all the characters. The mystery was good. Can't say enough about the scenery! Who is it gonna be Luke (yes) or Evan?
