Once received I had it installed within a couple days. I couldn't believe how easy it was compared to my older system. What made the installation a breeze (no pun intended lol) was the fact that the sensors are all housed within one unit...unlike the older systems which had at least three separate sensors and wires. It was as simple as attaching the sensor housing to a dowel at the height I wanted and then attach the dowel to the roof. Done. Going back to the display...all I had to do was plug it in and it automatically started the setup process and detected the sensors. In fact I didn't even need to look at the user guide it was so simple. And of course, the display was awesome. I loved the graphics...gives more of a computer feel to it...yet the info is laid out in an orderly fashion and easy to understand. An added plus which I actually love...seeing how the display is always on...is the option to dim the brightness at a specific time in the evening or...to have the display go into a sleep mode at a specific time and wake back up at a specific time. The screen dims and only shows the most important current weather info. If you need to see the main screen you simply press a key and it wakes up. The display goes back to sleep after 15 seconds of the last key press. This is very handy at night. I have mine go to "sleep" shortly after I call it a night, and wake back up about an hour before I get up. Now that is a very clever handy function. This system also updates more frequently when it comes to wind guests than my older system did which means it catches more guests with less data loss. My older system updated every 30 seconds...you can miss vital wind gust info within a 30 second span. So...this was an added plus for me. And lastly, this weather station also detects lightning which is a first for me. On day one after I installed it we had another winter storm push through and behind it heavy showers. This system detected a single lightning strike about 9 miles away...most likely off shore as we live on the coast. You see the lightning alert on both the display and the portable detector. I like how it actually tells you how many miles away the lightning was. To know if lightning is getting closer or moving further away you simply see if the system is reporting lighting with the distance decreasing or increasing. Decreasing means getting closer and increasing moving away. Simple enough.
One thing to note, as you look at the included photos, I also have a wired wind gauge which is the small display you see above this weather station's display...and to the left of this stations sensors on my roof. And yes...I also purchased it from Amazon. It's electronic and gives me up to the second wind info...so a more accurate wind reading. While the wireless update window with the AcuRite 01024M Pro is much faster than older systems...there is still some data loss due to the update window it has...which is why I have a second wind gauge...kind of like a back-up system.
So...if you're looking for a well put together weather station with clean crisp graphics...and in color to boot...I highly recommend this system. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to tracking the remaining winter storms of 2017 as they push through our area. Hope this review helps you to make your decision....
