I have been wearing this style of shoe for many years, but once I tried these Skechers, they are my shoe. Other shoes would start looking ratty and the sole would start coming a part, but these Sketchers seem to last forever. I wore my last pair for a year, wearing nothing else, just these shoes, and finally decided to replace them for a pair that look new. But I didn't throw away the old ones, but kept them as work shoes. I put them on today to do concrete work, where I don't want to mess up my new ones. I love these shoes. And, they are very comfortable, about the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. Great shoes. Love the memory foam.
I play in bands, which means standing for 5-6 hours in a typical bar environment, and loading equipment in and out. Nonslip soles are great where the floors might have spilled beer, but sometimes a little annoying for dancing and pretending to have fun. I play fairly regularly, and at some point they also became my goto shoe for the elliptical machine; the flat soles with square sides are good for that, but the waterproof construction means they definitely don't breathe. :) The foam insoles are dense and comfortable, and good for extended standing and walking.
It's not a super-long-lasting shoe. Ultimately the memory foam/gel insole is going to be the first thing to fail in any memory foam work shoe, and I get the idea Sketchers designed the rest of the shoe with this in mind. Once the insoles lose their squish, it isn't too long before the sides fail. If your plan is to add inserts and keep replacing them until the tread is gone, these are not your shoes.
Fit: I am a men's 10-wide, and the standard "wide relaxed fit" 10 fits perfectly. I do not need the extra wide, and there is adequate toe room. I also have collapsed arches, and there is enough material under the arches. A very comfortable fit.
So, they're not a super-long-wearing shoe, but the comfort and performance is very high while it lasts.
OG Review: Decent pair of shoes, but also looks like it's part of a nursing home uniform. That aside, let's get into it for a moment.
Upon arrival, they were new. Yep. Surprise! Anyway, took the obligatory sniff inside this new piece to really take in the chemicals all new shoes sport. Nostalgia. Tried them on and they fit great. Comfortable, light, breathable. Perfect.
Took these kicks to my job. That's where the problem started.
These foot condoms are fantastic if you don't kneel, squat or bend the toe section in any way beyond walking. If you stand all day and never have to get on the floor, my pretties may be for you too. If, however, you have a position where you work on things lower to the ground than your waist.. keep looking elsewhere. I had used these dog poo magnets for 3 days. 3 days, and the stitching snapped where the toe part bends. To be fair I'm doing a whole lot of kneeling to rewire this or resecure that. So I'm bending my feet... alot.
And speaking of moving in them: if you work on polished concrete, you're gonna sound like a NBA tournament is following you around. The chirps I get from the soles when i move sound like I'm playing my heart out in last championship b-ball game ever. It's almost embarrassing. Definitely not slip resistant, more like the shoe warns you, "we hit an oil slick, just letting you know we're going down." It's that fast. Hoping they hold up, and I've had them for maybe 3 or 4 weeks and nothing else has blown out, so maybe I can get at least 3 more months from them. If so... I'm still getting a different pair when they do kick the bucket. Hopefully in about 6 months or more. Hey, if they do last six months I'll come back and 5 star the heck outta these street stompers.
Overall, comfortable, and I don't mind the retired veteran New Balance persona these spider smackers exude. Wish they were more durable, but for the price, if they last 5 months, I'll be content.
