Sawyer International

Ready for the Backcountry

The ultra-light, easily packable Sawyer Micro Squeeze water filter fits in the palm of your hand and weighs just 2 ounces — making it ideal for ultralight backpacking and camping, as well as emergency preparedness.

The durable, collapsible 32-ounce reusable squeeze pouch rolls up when empty, so it won't take up space in your pack.

Filtered Water Anywhere

The reusable 0.1 absolute micron Micro Squeeze water filter produces clean water from freshwater lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as faucets in your home or hotel room while traveling (domestic and international).

The Micro Squeeze also comes with a straw that enables you to drink filtered water directly from a water source.

Easy Drinking

To start filtering water, simply fill the squeeze pouch with water from your water source, then attach the Micro Squeeze filter onto the pouch and start drinking via the removable flip top cap.

The Micro Squeeze also attaches onto water or soda bottles with a standard threaded top.

Sawyer's International Mission

Sawyer believes everyone deserves access to clean water — from hikers in the backcountry to indigenous people groups in the remotest corners of the world.

For over 10 years, Sawyer has been working with a variety of charities and churches who are on a mission to make a long-lasting impact in the lives of those around the world without access to clean drinking water.

High Performance Water Filtration

Hollow Fiber Membrane

Sawyer’s water filters are comprised of tiny hollow fiber membranes that allow water to enter their core through tiny micro-pores.

Thicker fiber walls combined with a smaller inner diameter make Sawyer fibers 75% stronger* than typical hollow fiber membranes, giving you a fast flow and enabling the filter to be continually backwashed forcefully to restore up to 98% of the original flow rate.

* Clean Water Institute of Calvin University; July, 2018

0.1 Absolute Micron Filtering

Each Sawyer water filter features 0.1 micron absolute filtration, meaning there is no pore size larger than 0.1 micron in size.

This makes it nearly impossible for microplastics, harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae, and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid) to pass through.

Fiber Protection

Sawyer's hollow fiber membranes are fully encased and sealed to keep them protected. When fibers are not enclosed, physical damage of exposed fibers could allow harmful pathogens to pass through.

Tested 3 Times

Every Sawyer filter is performance tested three separate times during the manufacturing process for your protection.

Testing occurs after the fiber element construction and twice after casing assembly to ensure no harmful pathogens leak through the sealed case or internal O-rings.

You have to admit, It's pretty awesome that something so small and light can do so much. 100,000 gallons? Yea I doubt anyone's filter will ever last that long. BUT, even if it only filters 50 gallons and then fails it's worth $30 IMO. In a disaster scenario, that could mean you and your loved ones get to survive for another day/week/month.The whole kit fits nicely in a 6x4x2 inch molle pouch with room to spare for other useful stuff. The filter itself is tiny and could easily be carried in your pocket if need be.Note: As one of the other reviews pointed out, there is no flow direction marker. The dirty end should be clearly marked, or there should be an arrow etched in the plastic showing correct flow direction etc.

Amazon has a "flavor" rating for this product? There're no flavor to it at all, which is perfect! :-)

After nearly 20 years of backpacking and using many filters (which have, thankfully, evolved tremendously over that time) this is my new hands-down favorite. It's nearly as light as the Sawyer Mini that it's replacing, and the flow rate is easily double that of the Mini. Both of these parameters are import because I'm now filling my hydration packs with unfiltered water and have installed this Sawyer Micro Squeeze in-line between the bag and the bite valve. I give the bladder a little squeeze to get the first water through the system, and everything flows well after that.

If you're wondering about the practical logistics of this setup, you should know that I'm now using a 1.5L bladder front-mounted to my pack's shoulder strap. This has the dual benefits of easy access and providing a counterbalance to the weight on my back. For routes where water is more scarce, I can mount a second 1.5L bag to the other shoulder strap. I know. Let the brassiere jokes begin. :-) But it works, and this little filter makes it practical.

Finally, a water filter that is compact and ultralight like the Sawyer Mini, but with a flow rate faster than a trickle. The design makes it easy so use as a squeeze/bottle top OR an inline/gravity filter. This also came with Sawyer's new version of their squeeze bag which I do like much better than the old version but I still chose to use this with a CNOC Vecto 2L water bag because the wide opening just makes it so much easier to collect water from a shallow source. I also replaced the sport cap with a Smartwater/Lifewatr sport cap, they're just much easier to use than the older style sport cap that the filter comes with. Back flushing can be done with a Smartwater/Lifewatr sport cap and water bottle too so if you already use something like that on the trail you can leave the plunger at home.

I love this thing. I bought it for backpacking through Sequoia National Park/Forest for a week and it did great. I prefer to use Smart Water bottles rather than the squeeze pouch and just use the filter as a lid to the bottle and drink through the sport cap. Since the filter isn't vented I do have to loosen the cap every time. I drink out of it to let the bottle go back to its original shape, and this starts to create weak points along the creases of the bottle that could potentially cause holes after a week or heavy use. The squeeze pouch is the same way though, and I would make sure to have at least one backup pouch with you if you are going out for longer treks. My biggest issue with this filter is that the gasket gets stuck in the mouth of the bottle or pouch almost every single time and does not seal correctly, taking a few tries of taking it off, realigning the gasket, and putting it back on the bottle. The filter comes with an extra gasket but I do worry that this is a weak point of the filter.

I did buy this for longer section hikes but I now pack it with me everywhere with the straw and sport cap in case I get in a pinch out on a day hike and its compact size and ultra light weight with that setup is awesome.

I have tested Sawer filters using pond water and puddles. I didn't get sick, so they seem to work fine. These filters only take out fairly large microorganisms, but those are the ones that mess you up the most. Cysts, bacteria, worms, etc are completely (or at least mostly) eliminated. If you must drink out of a creek, Sawyer filters work fine. I might hesitate to trust it with smelly pond water, which may have viruses from aquatic birds and other animals. They also do nothing about chemical contaminates, so you still have to be careful where you get the water.

small size, light weight, reliable, and easy to use hit all of my main water purifier concerns. this was so much easier to use than my hold katadyn hiker filter and so much lighter. i used this with the vecto was bag and worked perfectly every time and very easy too. its great how much flexibility it has and how it can be used in so many ways. i.e.-squeeze filter, gravity filter, straw filter, on tons of different bottles. this is now my go to water filter for the foreseeable future. the price also is a 3rd of what a replacement filter costs for the katadyn btw!

I have a friend with an older Sawyer Mini and this unit filters considerably faster. I used this with a 3L bladder bag as a gravity filter and it was plenty fast for use on the trail. I swapped the included caps for a flip-cap from a Life Water bottle which works great to keep that end clean when stored in my bag.

Will absolutely buy again, way better than pumping and easier to use for "cloudy" water than liquid or tablet treatments.

I used a CNOC 2liter crewed onto my Sawyer filter and it worked great. I also did a squeeze to speed things up and that worked to get water quickly. As I was in the pristine BC wilderness, the water tasted great, but of course would have without the filter. Just used it as an extra precaution. It's light and compact enough for my backpack and I keep it in my survival kit when not camping. Highly recommend Sawyer products. Did a quick flush when I got home.
