This kit was perfect for our family's annual vacation. Everyone, from grandma & grandpa down to our 6- and 3-year old had a great time on their tie dye projects and they turned out great. No experience required, and plenty of colors so 10+ people could work on their shirts at once!
The plastic sheet to protect the project area is pretty small, so if you're doing this with a big group I'd recommend a large drop cloth as well. We did it on the floor outside and had people kneel on the drop cloth and do the painting on the plastic sheet (which we put in the middle of the cloth). It also helped to have aprons and sleeve/knee guards (or clothes you don't mind getting stained with dye), since the paint can splatter and drip, and have plastic bags or ziplocs ready to put the shirts in to set after you dye them. We did about 20 shirts and still have lots of supplies left over.

Fun craft for kids
My daughter recently had a tie dye party for her young sons and their cousins and they turned out several tank and T-shirts. The results are vibrant and playful. The dyes tubes are easy to use and they go a long way. The moms decided that they will do this every Spring and these shirts will be their kids' summer wardrobe - much easier than shopping for kids clothes. And you can tie dye a shirt to go with any pair of shorts or outfit. Very versatile and economical.

I bought this kit to tie dye t-shirts during a camp trip for 25 adults. It was alot of fun.
Since there were several of us we made an assembly line of the various steps so that we were all experiencing steps together. Definitely wear gloves when you do this and do be careful not to pop the little dye caps off over the table. Several of us had the misfortune to have another person splash their dye color onto our project when they uncapped over the table. Also be sure to wipe the table surface clean after each project so that your shirt doesnt pick up unwanted residual color from a previous project.
It seemed as the Tshirts dried, the colors were less vibrant. For myself, I wanted to be sure to see the blaxk printed words on the Tshirt I dyed, so the fact that they got lighter as they dried, was ok by me.
We planned to do this on a Friday morning to that the shirts could set and we could rinse them out on Saturday morning and hang to dry before we left the campground on Sunday.
Be sure to save your gloves and wear them when you remove the rubber bands and rinse the shirt on the following day.
Each shirt's unwrapping and reveal was a grand surprise every time. It was an explosion of color, patterns and designs. I would definitely do this again!
PS - purple, turquoise, lime green, hot pink were popular colors that ran out first. Good thing there wwre a couple bottles of this color in the kit!

Colors came out strong. Washed the shirts and left them damp, let the shirts soak in trash bags for about 16 hours before rinsing. I feel no need to soak the shirts with Ash on this kit.
Protip: It only comes with one black but here's a workaround. Place a pan or something under your dying rack surface and let the folks who do not want to use black go first. The run off colors will mix in the pan and basically turn black so you will have much more to work with on later items if you siphon that back into a bottle.
