Product Description
"... [a] haunting thriller in the classic mode." – Film Daily Herbert Lom stars as The Phantom in Hammer Films' celebrated production of Gaston Leroux's horror classic. Mysterious mishaps bedevil a London opera house, but when tragedy strikes during an opening night performance, it's clear that these "accidents" are the deliberate work of a deranged madman – The Phantom. When Christine (Heather Sears), the young star of a new musical is contacted by the shadowy specter, her producer investigates, tracking the ghostly Phantom to his secret underground lair. More than an evil apparition, The Phantom proves to be a brilliant composer. Disfigured and nearly destroyed, he now demands his hellish revenge. Christine, his new star, is his one weakness, and he pays the ultimate price to keep his love alive.

I guess it wasn't popular enough over the other fameous horror movies...
the dvd of this goes straight to movie without no comericals for other movies before the flim starts.
the movie is great! I'm a fan of the novel, musicals by Andrew Llody webber, yeston & ken hill & Llody webber's Sequel love never dies!
Only one thing i wish the movie had been made with extras like flim bios of the stars, director & crew & have bee by another company.
Note:i've completed my collection of phantom of opera flims with Maximillian Schell & Jane Seymour(buy the movie at amazon.uk).i will not buy the phantom of paradise because it sucks & worst of apdaptation of phantom ever!!!!!!
the Director Brian DePalma is better known for carrie!
that's all i have to say.

Along with 'Shadow of the Cat' (also from 'Final Cut'), this is the first time this film has been released on DVD in the UK, and both releases are to be thoroughly welcomed. Any chance, of 'The Snorkel' another under-rated gem of a 'Hammer' film being released? Currently this is only available as part of a six 'Hammer Icons of Suspense' set from the States.
I note that some reviewers have moaned about the 'Blue Ray' disc not being very good. I can't comment on this since I bought the ordinary DVD which I found to be a very acceptable print. This film is 53 years old for God sake, and I am left feeling that some people don't make any allowances, and expect things to be as pristine as something that was made yesterday. To anyone seeking this film therefore, I would recommend buying it without any hesitation whatsoever. It's the best copy I have ever had, and far superior to any legit VHS copies or any bootleg DVD's that have been through my hands over the years!
Unbelievably it was a Hammer horror film! I found an edition which wasn't a blue ray, previously used but in good condition. It came quickly, was in ace condition and ,amazingly, really good shots of my father. Also very good additional stuff about making of film and people involved. Real value added. Hardly any horror of course but terrific
pleasure and nostalgia for me.
