Love Hate
I love and hate these markers. I bought the deluxe set (only because it is the only set which would ship to Hawaii from Amazon) which comes with two extra dual tip markers. The first marker is a colorless blender with the brush tip and the other a regular nib which was fine. The second was a pigment permanent pen with two different nib sizes. The pen is formulated to be permanent and not bleed if colored over by the color chameleon markers. (I do not use stamps, I draw my images by hand to color in so I was excited to have something that wouldn't smear.) First time I used the pen the larger nib was already dried out. I like using multiple nib sizes to give depth to my drawings. After just a few uses the other nib started to dry out. I tried using other pigment permanent pens but they were not compatible with the chameleon markers and would smear. I tried ordering just the pen from Amazon but again they wouldn't ship to Hawaii. So much for DELUXE. On to the markers. I had no experience with any alcohol ink markers except sharpies which give me migraines because of the odor. I know from friends and other artists that Copic markers are the top of the line but a huge investment. After doing as much research as I could I decided to buy the chameleon markers to see if i even liked alcohol ink markers. All of the markers in the deluxe set were in working order when they arrived. The cardboard case they came in allows me to leave them horizontal while storing and semi-horizontal while working but still have access to all the colors. The booklet that came with the markers showed me the basics but from there I signed up for the newsletter and watched all the videos I could find. It has taken a lot of practice but I've gotten good with them. I do a lot of doodling which is steampunk, abstract ocean scenes, and fairy doors so getting the real life color of something isn't always necessary. I'm free to think outside the box with my color combinations. The sets colors don't have skin tones... If you are looking to do manga this set is not for you. Although I see that they are now coming out with more colors which is exciting. However the timeline of the new colors being released is too far off for me. I'm constantly growing and pushing myself in my art so I have decided to invest in Copic markers. I will keep my chameleon markers and still practice with them. I may even see if chameleon and Copic markers play well together. I'll attach a photo of a project which I used the chameleon marks with good success because of the small coverage area needed, great blending was accomplished.
