Product Description

The Razer Ornata Chroma features the all-new Razer Mecha-Membrane that combines the best of both membrane rubber domes and mechanical switches to deliver a typing experience unlike anything before. While traditional rubber dome keyboards are known for their soft cushioned touch, they fail to deliver accurate tactility due to their mushy feel and lack of actuation control. On the other hand, mechanical switches deliver fast actuations and distinct tactile feedback but cause fatigue during extended gaming sessions.

Bought 3 of these, 1 had issues; overall decent gaming keyboard

Bought 3 of these, 1 had issues; overall decent gaming keyboard
I've had a pretty good experience with Razer products in general, so I decided to upgrade from my old Razer keyboard (Anansi), to the new Ornata Chroma which was on sale. Of course the big selling feature with the Ornata Chroma is that the keyboard uses a "mecha membrane" key system. When each key is pressed down, the feeling is similar to that of a clicky mechanical keyboard. Typing feels much better compared to my old membrane keyboard. And since it uses a membrane instead of individual mechanical keys, the price is kept down.LightingThe main reason why I bought this keyboard was for the illuminated keys. The keys appear to "float" over the RGB lighting giving it a really cool look. The actual keys themselves have their letters lit - but the font size is rather thin, so the lighting through letters can appear a bit dim compared to other competing keyboards. Still, the keys are readily readible in the dark - which works for me.TypingI really like the feel of the typing with this keyboard. I didnt' want to spend the money for a real mechanical keyboard with RBG lighting (like the Black Window or the Huntsman), so this suits me nicely. All the keys feel great when I type long emails or documents.GamingI've played mainly FPS games and MMO's with this keyboard and it feels really comfortable. Other than the sticky issue (see below), gaming with this keyboard is good.Razer customer service helping with problemsInitially I had no problems with the Ornata Chroma. I liked it so much I ended up with three of them - one for my home PC, another for my office PC, and lastly one for a family member. However, after a week 1 of the 3 keyboards started having sticky keys. I would press down on some keys and they would not return back up after the initial keystroke. This didn't happen that often, but it was very annoying when it did. Thankfully this only plagued one of the keyboards- the other two were just fine. I tired to fix the issue myself by cleaning the key swtches, but eventually the keys would still stick down. I ended contacting Razer's customer service. Although I had to send the keyboard back to them via Fedex (they provided the paid shipping box), the customer service was very smooth - all during a holiday break - which was quite unexpected. They literally responded to every email I sent within 1 day, and usually it was with an actual person addressing my needs specifically. The unit I received back was a brand new Ornata Chroma and it works perfectly.ConclusionIn the end, I feel that my experience with this keyboard's sticky keys is rare occurance - due to all the positive reviews that I've seen. And if you do have any issues, I'd say that their customer service will definitely take care of you. The Ornata Chroma is a really good deal for the feel of mechanical keyboard, response of a gaming keyboard, and the fully customizable lighting that Razer provides.

I’ve had this product for nearing 6 months now. It’s held up through siblings and others roughhousing. It’s had it’s fair bit of use in these 6 months, (atleast 5 hours a day). I’ve experienced an increase in performance once I switched from my old $15 off brand keyboard to this keyboard. It truly is an amazing keyboard for everything from writing 5 essays a day to playing competitive games for hours and hours on end. My hands never start to hurt, and I believe it’s because of this wrist rest. The wrist rest is a tad thin, and hard but it has the feel of a soft leather. It doesn’t negatively affect me in any aspect. The keyboard is easily cleaned, and is pretty much plug & play. I received mine and was very very satisfied. The tactile keys are clicky, yet soft. But not too soft. They feel amazing, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. They sound like mechanical keys. The lighting under the keyboard is ambient with the opaque plastic above the LED’s. It makes it 10x better looking, and it helps with cleaning. The custom cable channel under the keyboard is very helpful for tabletop wire management. Having 3 channels for the keyboards wire. The wire feels strong and durable, after having it for 6 months and having it in each different channel, there are no signs of wear. It’s kept very nicely. The Razor lighting program is also very easy to navigate and use. Easily change between thousands of colors to match any setup. Thousands of different reactions are available to change as well. Everything is easily customizable. Overall this product is a definite item that I would recommend to anyone that is questioning purchasing this product.

I bought this keyboard on prime day and benefited from it being on sale, but at any rate it’s a solid rig. Initial intentions were for pc gaming, but as I’m transitioning from console, keyboard and mouse gaming is shaky at best for me.
But what I do know is typing. Man I can type with the best of them and this thing loves to be clackety clacked. The click is not annoying or loud but rather precise and reassuring. The timing of the switches that came with this keyboard, as it firmly bottoms out really is perfect.
The lights are going strong with moderate use. They haven’t lagged during gaming or suffered any outages. They are individually lit, responsive, incredibly customizable and just really pretty. I set mine on fire mode and leave it on in the background while I’m afk just because it’s pretty to glance at.
The wrist rest is very comfortable and continues the pretty in satin black. I’d say the magnets could be a touch stronger, but I say a lot of things so… grain of salt.
The cord has good heft for being such a lightweight fabric wrap. The 3 ports on the base of the keyboard keep the cord firmly in place weather your flat on a desktop or on a keyboard map.

    It’s a buy

The Razer Ornata Chroma has been hands-down the absolute best keyboard my hands have ever touched.

I hate the feeling of mechanical keyboards, and normal membrane keyboards often feel mushy, which causes misclicks. I first saw the Ornata in a MicroCenter, and when I felt the click of the Mecha-Membrane key switch, I knew that was the keyboard I needed.

The actuation point is clearly felt, the reset is quick, and the sound is sharp. The sound of keystrokes flowing is absolute music to my ears. I never have to worry about my fingers slinding about from one key to another like I do with Cherry MXs, because the Mecha-Membrane provides a nice amount of resistance without needing to be slammed. It's a fantastic experience and I recommend anyone who is disatisfied with the feel and performance of mechanical keyboards to try the Ornata.

As far as the RGB aspect, it's wonderful. Fully customizable, millions of color combinations, and even animation presets. Razer's Chroma software is non-intrusive and user-friendly, so color overhauls are doable on the fly with little if any friction. The process itself doesn't take up much memory or CPU usage, and it automatically stops any active animations when heavy loads are placed on my system, such as the use of VR equipment, high-fidelity gaming, etc. The program self-updates regularly and keeps itself out of the way when it's not in use. Overall, great software. The lighting is fantastic; it can be bright when it want it to be and dim when I need it. I can clearly tell the difference between even slightly different tones, not to mention how mice the light diffuses through the keys.

Overall, I am incredibly satisfied with my purchase, and I highly recommend this product to everyone who is interested in a high-quality keyboard without the price hike of mechanical switches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Razer Redemption??
Reviewed in Canada on April 21, 2020
I used to own a Razer keyboard years ago, but nothing like the Ornata Chroma Gaming Keyboard.
It was a chiclet style (Razer Deathstalker, Green RGB backlighting) and it was my first "true" gaming keyboard.

Needless to say, the chiclet style keys and 1-colour RGB aren't for everybody. Over time, the keys became unresponsive, weren't easy to clean, and the look was really troublesome with my rig as I couldn't customize or change anything - everything had to revolve around that green colour, which, by the way, was dull in comparison to today's offerings.

I can honestly say that after moving to Logitech for a period of a good couple years, I can confidently say that Razer has me back again.

The RGB is stellar. It is beautiful to look at, bright, and customizable using the Chroma software (Razer Synapse). My favourite pattern to use is the "Wave" pattern because it matches the RGB of my CPU cooler. I was skeptical, admittedly, at first, of the "mecha-membrane" key switches, as I'd always loved the feel of mechanical, but the simplicity of membrane (as well as softness for key-travel and comfort for long-sessions of typing or gaming), but never found it justifiable to spend more than 50$ odd on keyboard unless it was on sale for a decent price compared to retail.

When I bought this Razer mouse to go alongside my new Razer Basilisk v2 (wired) mouse, I instantly knew from the first Skype message I typed out that I was happy with my decision. The sound of the keys clicking is quieter than traditional mechanical keys, but the keys have the same feel as a truly mechanical switch. My only gripe is the travel, which is about the same as a traditional mechanical. Having come from a Logitech Prodigy G213, the travel on the keys in general is wonderfully in line and more comfortable to type on. I actually find that I type faster with these these keys than I did with even that keyboard (average WPM ~120). The only key that bothers me a bit is the Space key, as for the way that I type, I feel like it sticks a bit before going down (as though I'm not hitting it straight on, so it catches, if that makes sense?). But its not that crazy noticeable unless I'm typing at full capacity, which these days, isn't as often as I am speaking so its not really a bother (could just be my positioning on the keyboard).

Synching the RGB with the Razer suite (Razer Synapse) was instantaneous. As soon as I plugged in the device, it was connected and synched. Within moments I had the RGB configured and was typing away. Couldn't be easier to setup, and couldn't look more amazing in synch with my mouse, and Goliathus mousemat.

From my experience thus far in gaming, and typing, I can't say that I have really any complaints besides my minor gripe with the space bar "catching", but I expect that is just a matter of getting used to having to apply more force than usual with my thumb when typing. I don't dock too many points for that ;)

If you love the feel of mechanical keys, like I do (and the sound!) but want to be comfortable during gaming/typing sessions, I'd definitely suggest giving the Ornata Chroma Gaming Keyboard a try. For the price (less than 100$ CAD) that I paid for it, it was a steal.

I know who's going to be supplying me with peripherals (again) from now on ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars A keyboard Not for everyone

This keyboard is not for everyone. And people wont appreciate it out here. Once they hear the price they get all distraught. If your buying this its an investment into something you want and you will enjoy. I personally love the keyboard and has made my work that much easier.

    Pro:
    Amazing Lighting
Clicky sound is not too over bearing just the right amount
Arm rest is very comfortable once you get used to it.
Accuracy in typing has increased considerably.
Doesn't slip or move has a nice slant too.

    Cons:
When not lighted up the keys are hard to see
    No extra macro keys
Accidentally you may push the wrong profile on occasion.
    Expensive

I don't really mind the Cons this keyboard will last me a really long time. And that is why it's an investment for me.
