“Alexa, turn on the light.”
“Alexa, set bedroom light to warm white.”
“Hey Google, turn off the bedroom light.”

Using the new API features, that Sonoff has added to their devices, these now support full local-only controll and integrate easily with HomeAssistant without any flashing necessary. They have been working great for me for several weeks now, and consistently respond instantly and report the power continuously & consistently. I've got one powering all the gear in my network closet including 3 UPS devices, 24 port PoE switch, cable modem, Edgerouter, Lutron Caseta hub, Sonoff Zigbee bridge, HDHomeRun, multiple Ubiquiti Access points (via PoE), Serial to Ethernet converter (for Pool Controller), and a Ryzen Unraid (NAS) server.... so that I can consistently see the power draw of all this...

And the Sonoff switch hasn't skipped a beat in over a month now. I already owned nearly a dozen TP-Link Kasa wifi switches, but the model with power monitoring is just over-priced. So these Sonoff S31 are an Awesome value, that has a solid stable integration with HomeAssistant (HassIO)!

These are a great!

I don't have a "connected" home yet, and I would like to put it off further. I did, however, require energy usage monitoring, specifically the ability to take a live sample of power draw. This device does that fine. It also offers the ability to monitor energy usage daily (it gives you a total value used per day). The app interface could be better, but it works fine.

Please note on iOS14 and up: I was having issues setting the second one up for a similar use case for someone else and they had denied access to the local network for the application. This prevented setting the device up. Just FYI, check the app permissions if you're having issues connecting a device.

This works with the ewelink app and the Alexa skill app together with no problems. On the ewelink app it well show you the Volt's. Amp's and Watt's. That let's me know if it is working. The Alexa skill does not show that. But both apps work side by side with out any issues. If you turn it on or off with earthier app it well show in both apps if it is on or off. As of today I am using 5 of them. In the ewelink app you can set on or off in a schedule. But if you tell Alexa to turn it on or off it well come back on or off in the next schedule of the ewelink app. I also use it to turn on my crock pot and roaster oven when I'm at work. And I use one to turn my ready heater on and off in the garage. You can also set up a repeat timer I use that on my night lights.

I bought these so I could monitor power on things like our dehumidifier and freezer. They work great. It took a couple cycles of upgrading the software to get to the latest version, which provides the features I need (like having them always come in in the on mode after a power outage, which is essential for a freezer and dehumidifier). This was easy enough, though I am pretty tech savvy. The E-We-Link software that gives power information and lets you control the device is a little limited in functionality. For example, it shows a bar graph of the energy usage and doesn't provide the actual amount of energy used each day. Also, the instructions and some of the user interface elements are in 'chinglish'. I downgraded a bit for that. These can be flashed with open source software like Tasmoto. However, it required soldering and following some instructions on Youtube that are good, but require some skill. I did this on one of mine and the power monitoring ability was lost. I'm not sure if that is a software problem or if I did some damage with the soldering iron. Replacing the firmware allows use with open-source software like HomeAssistant. That's nice, IMHO, because the data is under your control and not in the cloud. Unfortunately, there is no going back to the native software once you do this.

These plugs are easy to use, plug them in, install the app, then connect to wifi. The power monitoring is a nice feature, with a calculation of the cost based on the rate you enter in the app. I use one for an old amp and the other for a lamp. I use the schedule to turn the lamp on around sunset, turn it off before bed, and turn it back on the next morning as an alarm.

Don't buy it if you live in US and if you don't want to flash a 3rd party firmware.

For some reason, the eWelink app no longer supports login with US cellphone numbers. YES, you need a cellphone number to register and login.

*This makes it unusable if you live in US*

Below is my previous review.

If you are not committed to trash your existing appliances and electronics while you still want a taste of smart home, smart plugs is the nicest choice.

In particular, s31 smart plugs comes with compact size and stability as well as a competitive price. The brand might not be as famous as those big names, but sonoff is actually the manufacturer for many of those famous, but expensive, brands. So I can trust its quality.

This is easy to setup and a good price. Some other reviewers said that it doesn’t remember power state after a power interruption. This is true for version 1.0.0 firmware. After upgrading to the latest firmware and exiting the settings screen, the next time you go into settings it will have a new option for power state. You can set it to “keep” or “on” which were not previously available. This is useful for devices that you want to always be on.
