There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Now for a couple of down sides.
It has to be installed on a dedicated circuit using CRAZY large wiring - 6 gauge. This made it very hard to work with, as that thick of wire does not bend easily, either going into the circuit panel or the heater. Also, since you have to tap into your existing water lines, you have to hire a plumber unless you are pretty handy. Paying a plumber and an electrician for installation can easily add $400 to the cost.
From what I saw on here, I thought you HAD to buy the valves. Plumber said no, and didn't use them.
It was also recommended on here that you add a scale-removing filter to your water lines. Plumber said no, and didn't use it.
I also bought a 2nd tankless heater and valve set because we thought we would not only have the one for the kitchen sink be added, but we also thought we could replace our existing gas water heater with one. Plumber said no, and said that would be about $1,400 to install it there.
So, lesson learned - talk to a plumber before buying this. We wasted about $350 on the extra things we bought that could not be used.

We have a small household of two, and we do cold-water wash. So the only we use the heater for two nightly showers , the dishwasher , and occasional hand-wash. This replaced a HUGE 80G solar hot tank which was in the home (see photo). Our A/C system had to fight to compensate for the extra 80G tank heat load which was significant. Plus it consumed 10 sq ft of the pantry , which we now recovered for storage.
I have an energy monitor watching the heater- see snapshot. At that time the shower and dishwasher were both running, it was drawing about 43A (9.4KW) which is well-below our 13KW capability. We do have it at a pretty low temperature (110F). There is a jumper you can change inside the unit to lower the load (KW). But of course that also reduces the capability. An if you set the jumper to say 8KW, then it might be wiser and more economical to just BUY an 8KW heater instead,
I'm an Electrical Engineer. Think of these this way - the limitation on these systems is how many degrees can I raise how many gallons per minute (GPM)? If I can raise one GPM by 50 degrees max, then I can only raise by 25 degrees max IF the demand is TWO GPM. And so on.
So two things you need to know: your hot water flowrate, and the difference between your cold-water and hot-water temperature. THOSE will tell you what size heater (KW) you require.
There is a lot of "engineering" involved in selecting your tankless system:
How many Amps can my wiring support? A typical heater has a 5KW element. Tankless use 2-5 times that. For our install , we used #6 wire which is very thick and very expensive. Over 13KW, you ,might need #4 wire or you might even need TWO sets of #6 or #4 wires. Some installs are off TWO dual 40A or 60A services. This one uses one dual 60A (dual meaning 220VAC). Read the requirements carefully because its possible your current wiring is insufficient. Is your total home service (typically 100, 150 or 200A) adequate for this tankless AND your HVAC, hottub, pumps, etc, at the same time? And you want some guardband on current. If your breakers and wire CAN provide 60A, its a good idea to not use that full demand- a 10 or 20% guardband is advisable. As I said were at 9.5KW which is almost a 30% guardband! So we have some room to increase our set point.
How many degrees am I raising the water temperature? In FL, our water comes out of the tap at about 70 degrees, so we raise it 40 degrees to our 110F set point. In other climes it might come out at 50 or lower. That means a more powerful heater might be needed, even for one sink. Say your cold water comes out at 50 and you want 140 degree hot water- that's a HUGE demand. You might require a 24KW system or more.
What is my average and max hot water flow rate? Do I have a pounding high-pressure shower, or even two showers? Do I do hot water clothes washing? Do I run a dishwasher and shower at the same time? Here is a good example where a LOW FLOW shower is beneficial because its less demand on the tankless heater. Unlike a conventional hot water heater which can supply as much hot water to as many sources as you need (as long as the tank water stays hot) , the tankless can only raise a limited flow or water by a limited number of degrees. You would need to study the specs, or change your lifestyle (wash clothes or dishes when showers are not taken, use only COLD water in sinks, install low-flow shower heads, etc) , or as we used to say, shower with a FRIEND!
High-currents are involved on these systems so be sure a qualified electrician installs it or inspects it.
So far we're happy with this mid-range system. We'll see a full energy report in a month or so, then we will know more!
UPDATE: Im not sure if this has been like this all-along and/or if this is significant, but there are four LED segments lit up now ALL THE TIME! See photo. I'm tyring to contact the company...

An excellent heater. I have one in another location. Unfortunately our current plumber refused to warranty the work, unless he installed one he provided. I had to send amazons back unused. But it is great! EEMAX Makes great H²O heaters!
