From the manufacturer
Over the decades, Crock-Pot, the original slow cooker brand, has evolved from a single bean cooker into a diverse and extensive line of slow cookers and accessories that make meals and entertaining smarter, easier, and more convenient for the many different styles of cooking today. For busy families, Crock-Pot Slow Cookers offer a solution to healthier, more wholesome meals, while slow cookers designed for portability and entertaining provide new and different ways to enjoy slow cooking with the Crock-Pot brand.
Crock-Pot 6-Quart Slow Cooker with Stovetop-Safe Cooking Pot
Go from stovetop to slow cooker
Because many slow-cooker recipes require a two-step process, starting with browning or searing meat on the stovetop before slow cooking to seal in flavors, you often end up with more than one dirty pot to scrub clean. For the ultimate one-pot solution, the Crock-Pot brand designed a stovetop-safe pot that moves from stovetop to slow cooker in one smooth move.

The insert is nonstick solid aluminum so you can use it on the stovetop and then transfer it into the crockpot base. It browns beautifully. And the nonstick coating makes clean up much easier. Plus the bottom is flat, not convex like the pot of an Instapot.
Even in you don't need to brown anything, you can bring whatever you are cooking up to temperature before putting it in the base to finish it. Saves a lot of time.
I had one that was destroyed in a catastrophic house fire two years ago. I loved it so much that I bought the same thing to replace it. I use it once a week in the cooler months.
The Crockpot arrived the next day and I was excited about using it. Instead of using a liner, I trusted the new non-stick feature. All went well as I set the timer on my chicken for eight hours. I assume that the timer worked and the temperature was on Warm at the ten hour point. Excellent. The chicken was done and it was what I expected. The instructions state that the crock must be hand-washed due to the non-stick coating. The non-stick coating worked very well when I washed the crock with soap and hot water. Now for the problem. When I smelled the crock, cleaned to my high standards, it still smelled like the chicken dinner. Maybe it was clean, but should it still smell? I don't mean a bad smell, just the aroma of the chicken persisted. This does not happen with the ceramic crock. I then cleaned it again using a light scrubbing with the scrubber side of the sponge. Hot water. Hot water rinse. Still a detectable aroma. What?!? Next I filled it with hot water and dumped in some baking soda. It soaked for thirty minutes, but I still detected the smell. Is it clean? No doubt. Keep in mind that when I say "smell", I mean putting my face in the pot with my nose almost right on the surface. I have it soaking again with the baking soda, but I am already inclined to put it in the dishwasher where the more power dishwasher soap can try to tackle the problem. I have yet to try the sear-meat-stove-to-crockpot feature but now I am concerned because I think I should always use a liner. Dilemma apparent.
UPDATE: After the last soaking, I am satisfied that I cannot smell yesterdays dinner. I take dishwashers for granted I guess. I also wonder if there is some natural smell of the crock as it comes from the factory.
I love new appliances. The jury is still out on if this version of the Crockpot is a suitable replacement for the ceramic version. I am concerned and that is why I only gave the product 4 stars. What should be a no-brainer product, is not. The stainless-steel finish and the black crock make this Crockpot an attractive counter top item. I have no plans to return it, but may eventually put it in the dishwasher. Handwashing cuts way down on the convenience afforded by the Crockpot-for-dinner time saving.

Be very careful if you have purchased this product and wish to keep it. I did extensive testing, using an ammeter, and determined that, should you decide to manually put the unit on the keep warm setting, you are in effect, placing it on the highest setting possible! That’s right! The only way this product will properly work on the keep warm setting, is if the timer is on and it reaches zero, or, you have the timer on and press the down arrow until the timer goes to zero. If you do not do that and just manually click through the buttons until you get to keep warm, without using the timer, the unit will be operating at full power! You will not only be keeping your food extremely warm, you are in effect cooking it on high heat! You will not know this without proper testing but I can assure you, you will know it once your food is over cooked, should you wish to leave it very long on this setting - unless, as I said, you bring it to the keep warm setting by exhausting the time on the timer.
If you are OK with that then go ahead and purchase this product. If not, beware of what you are getting and be forewarned.
Je doute toutefois de la durabilité de son enduit. Seul l’avenir le dira...
