Great for solitaire

Great for solitaire
Great for solitaire. I am paraplegic and either in my wheelchair without a table or in bed with the same, so I play what I call Hand Solitaire. You hold the whole deck in one hand the cards face down and then with the other hand draw four cards from the back flipping them and placing them on the deck. As shown in the picture if the first and forth cards are the same suit you remove the middle 2 cards and discard them (I hold them in the same hand as the deck with my unused fingers) then continue to draw cards from the back of the deck until you get the first an forth cards the same suit or if the First and Forth card are the same denomination or face card as shown in the picture you remove all 4 cards this actually is the only way you can win the game if the last 4 cards are matching denominations or face cards. I actually have won a few games

I enjoy playing cards and recently needed to replace a deck in which one card had gotten bent. The cards I'd been using were Bicycle cards, so I ordered these to work with them. I'm pleased to report the standards fro these cards have been maintained.

Yes, I can buy this set for $1.00 less at a brick & mortar store, but that also means masking up and worrying that I don't catch COVID in the process. Speaking of COVID, we've played a lot of cards with our kids in the last 8 months and expect to play more. Thus, getting a pair of new decks was essential. We split one into a Euchre deck and the other will be for cribbage. I grew up in the Windsor, Ontario, area when the Bicycle cards were made in our area. These are the same cards I played with as a kid. Nothing has changed. They are crisp. The finish is excellent, the weight is perfect, the lettering and prints are sharp. The 13 yr old can shuffle them with ease and even the 10 yr old is able to give it a try. I wouldn't play with any other cards. 5 stars.

I've been looking through most every retail store looking for 2 replacement standard decks of BICYCLE playing cards for over 5 months! We've used Bicycle cards for almost 50 years. My grandparents used Bicycle standard *then called 'Poker" and Bicycle Pinocle (sp?) cards since before I was born. I can remember my Uncle & Aunt visiting on a Saturday evening playing cards with them & I would keep score. My Uncle Ken introduced me to the strategies of the different games & bidding. I miss them all deeply.
After we married, we always had Bicycle cards in the games cabinet - a minimum of 4 decks in various stages of wear. Bicycle cards held up the best. We would recycle (pardon the pun) the older decks with new decks as they wore out, with 2 new decks in reserve. The newer ones for gin, rummy, bridge, hearts & poker. The worn ones for Solitaire and the kids' usage. When the older ones got too worn, they were thrown out, the newer ones would take their place and the brand new ones would be opened. The coating made them slippery and stiff until they were broken in, but we have a card shuffler.
The Bicycle brand cards wear like iron! It takes months for them to wear out. The last two sets I just replaced ? The coating had worn off; they would stick together (until I used the paper bag & talcum powder trick) and the edges were starting to tatter. That's wear and that's quality! We've tried others but they didn't last nearly as long as Bicycle decks.

When I first bought these, I didn't like them -- they don’t feel like the playing cards I grew up with. They’re slippery and stiff, and don't feel like cardstock. The finish is obviously a 21st-century improvement - plasticized. Possibly beer-resistant. But the finish is also slightly texturized, woven-looking, somehow, so they're not as slippery as they might be, I guess -- and they don't stick together like plain plastic would.
We had some trouble holding onto and shuffling them when they were new -- 52-card pickup more than once.
But we're getting used to them. And there are no alternatives. We tried the 1875 anniversary cards, thinking they might have the old-fashioned finish, but they're plasticized too. I can't imagine that cheaper knockoffs could be any better.
So I'm changing my review from a grumpy-old-lady 2-star to an admitting-they're-probably-the-best-they-make-today 5-star.
