    From the manufacturer

    THX Certified Select Reference Sound

THX Certified Select guarantees the same high-volume sound you experience at a commercial theater in your home. To gain certification, amplifiers must pass the industry's most severe bench-tests covering every aspect of audio performance. THX Certified Select components are ideally suited to rooms where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is approximately 3 meters (10 ft.), and the room volume is approximately 57 cubic meters (2,000 cubic feet).

Unleash Dolby Atmos or DTS:X Home Theater

Object-based soundtracks allow independently mixed sound to play through any speaker in your system, moving above and around you with breathtaking realism. The TX-RZ820 reproduces 5.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos or DTS:X formats, with AccuReflex correcting the phase of direct and indirect sounds for cohesive audio imaging with Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.

    Upmixing Solutions for Legacy Soundtracks

DTS Neural:X identifies spatial effects in multichannel soundtracks and upmixes for 3D playback through object-audio-ready speaker systems. Dolby Surround also upmixes legacy sound formats so you can experience multidimensional playback of legacy sound formats in a Dolby Atmos environment.

Music Made Easy with Chromecast built-in*

Stream any music from your smartphone, laptop, or PC to the TX-RZ820 with ease. Control playback with Chromecastenabled apps you know and love from your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.

    *Available via firmware update.

    Stream Anything with DTS Play-Fi*

DTS Play-Fi is a wireless protocol that works with any audio app on mobiles and PC. Flick whatever's playing to the receiver, even different sources to different components at the same time.

    *Requires a future firmware update.

    FireConnect Wireless Multi-room Audio

FireConnect mirrors network audio and external analog sources connected to a master component, from streaming services to vinyl records on FireConnect-compatible speakers in other rooms. Music selection, speaker grouping, and playback management across the home are built into Onkyo Controller app for iOS and Android.

Note: Sharing audio from external inputs depends on the model and is enabled with a future firmware update. Sampling rates of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz are supported. FireConnect is a technology based on Blackfire provided by Blackfire Research Corp., USA.

    Wide Connectivity for Custom Setups

With 7.2-channel pre-outs, 12 V trigger, IR input, and optional rack-mount kit, the TX-RZ820 easily integrates other components (such as outboard amps) to create a full wired multi-room setup thanks to Powered Zone 2A/2B and Zone 2/3 Pre-/Line Outputs governed by a Whole Home Audio Mode and supported within Onkyo Controller. RS-232 and IP Control via LAN are ready for home automation systems.

    Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Spotify, and Bluetooth

Selectable 5 GHz/2.4 GHz Wi-Fi assures stable connectivity so you can enjoy smooth streaming over AirPlay, the Spotify app, and the local network. Bluetooth wireless technology also provides quick streaming from your choice of music application.

    Internet Radio and Streaming Services

TIDAL, Deezer, Pandora, and TuneIn are on board to make selecting from a massive range of music and radio programs using Onkyo Controller very simple.

Supports HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, BT.2020, 4K/60 Hz, and HDCP 2.2

Six rear HDMI inputs, Main Out, and Zone 2 Out support pass-through of HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), and Dolby Vision; the BT.2020 4K video standard; 4K/60 Hz video playback; and HDCP 2.2 for premium video content. Front HDMI terminal is ideal for video camera connection, while the Zone 2 output distributes home theater video to a display in a second room.

    Multi-Zone Audio and Video

Pre-outs for Zone 3 as well as Powered Zone 2A/B capability opens up distributed audio options throughout the home backed by dedicated Zone 2 and Zone 3 DACs.

    Noiseless Audio Processing

Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry is a mouthful, so we call it VLSC. This circuitry virtually removes digital pulse noise for a smooth analog signal. RZ720 focuses VLSC on the front left and right channels.

Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result is a virtually noiseless, smooth, analog signal based on the digital source. It brings out even the most subtle of nuances in audio sources.

    Limitless Performance. Installation Friendly.

The Onkyo RZ Series was designed for home theater integration and performance above and beyond your expectations. From multi-zone audio and video options to dedicated RZ Series phone support and a three-year product warranty, the Onkyo RZ Series delivers superior audio performance in the configurations you want with the support you should expect from the leader in home audio.

Priority Support & Three Year Warranty

Onkyo RZ Series specialists are specifically trained to troubleshoot any issues you encounter on an install via a dedicated support line. Onkyo RZ Series products are backed by a three-year warranty should a product ever require service or replacement.

    “Initial Setup” isn’t perfect

    “Initial Setup” isn’t perfect
Ok so the first impression was in size of the receiver. Take your measurements first! I had to reconfigure the placement of my components but it’s not a huge issue for me, although it may be for you...Anyway, I went through the “Initial setup” process by Onkyo and found it pretty easy to use AND the sound configuration works for my living room. Some have said it didn’t work out for various reasons but it worked for me. (I have hardwood floors which makes a big difference in sound configuration and reverberation of sound) I used the enclosed microphone and each speaker is well balanced for my seating arrangement. WiFi setup was a breeze, I don’t use Zone 2 so I skipped that step.Dislike: The “Initial setup” has a missed opportunity when detecting HDMI cable connections for each input on the receiver. I have my DirecTV box, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 connected. Simple right? Nope! Onkyo decided to utilize the “Game” HDMI input to recognize as Component cables. Why? I have an HDMI plugged in! Makes no sense. During the initial setup, I was able to successfully see picture and hear sound for “Cabl/Sat” and “Strm Box” with HDMI. (The latter is my Xbox One) I have my Xbox 360 plugged into “Game 5” which is HDMI 5 on the receiver. No picture, no sound...this is where I had an issue. Long story short, you need to configure the “Input/output Assign” in their settings, then assign the proper HDMI Input numbers for your components. WHY DIDN'T INITIAL SETUP DO THIS?!?! I don’t know, but my issue was fixed when I assigned them correctly. Also, I have an LG smart TV and couldn’t properly set up the TV audio out through HDMI for built in apps. (The TV and receiver have a setting to send TV audio out through HDMI ARC when using built in tuner and apps like Netflix and others.) Trust me, I had them plugged in properly and still didn’t work. I decided to use fiber optic output since my previous setup was like that anyway. Not a big deal to me but would have liked it to work they way it was designed. I did configure the TV and receiver to work this way but still nothing...I may call Onkyo support for this issue but haven’t as of this review.Overall sound is full as expected from Onkyo. I’ve used their receivers since 2001 paired with Polk speakers and love the combination. I do like this receiver a lot, I wish Onkyo would have let the initial setup auto detect all inputs and assign them for me. Still, I’m happy with the purchases and definitely recommend to anyone shopping for a replacement of old equipment. (My previous one was from 2006 and only had 2 HDMI inputs; but also suffered a nasty power surge from a lightning strike. I’ve protected my equipment with Monster Power surge protection and truly believe they work flawlessly, it’s worth the investment) I strongly recommend this receiver for all its capabilities and selection of HDMI inputs as well as multi zone (even though I don’t use it) and sound quality.
