In order to get around the three second delay, we installed safety bars on the upper half of my mother's bed so she has to slide down after sitting up in bed. When she sits up to slide toward the foot of the bed, the alarm goes off and we are able to reach her in time to prevent her getting up without help. If it were not for the bed rails, though, the three second delay would make the product useful only for alerting us AFTER Mom had fallen. Having said that, the alarm, in combination with the safety rails on the bed, has prevented numerous falls since we placed the pad on my mother's bed. The alarm is definitely useful for preventing falls if you find a way to overcome the three second delay.
As for the chair pad, we had to get a second alarm for Mom's wheelchair since the three second delay in sounding the alarm allowed her to be out of the chair before the alarm sounded.
The alarm that goes off when triggered by the pressure pad has good range and works throughout the house. But, the alarm has to be turned off and then turned back on each time it's triggered. If you forget to turn it back on, the next time the person gets up, you will get no warning alarm. This requires that the caregiver be diligent about turning the alarm back on EVERY TIME the person being cared for gets out of the bed or wheelchair. The other alarms that I use reset automatically after each time they are turned off, so I don't need to worry about turning them back on.
All in all, this is a good product and I'll likely replace the pressure pads as specified by the manufacturer when their one year of useful life is reached. A worthwhile and useful product.
