Ecovacs DEEBOT SLIM2

DEEBOT Skills

3 Stage Cleaning System

It cooks, serves, and cleans. Well maybe it doesn't do the first two but this DEEBOT's three stage cleaning process does sweep, vacuum, and dry mop in one pass.

Staying Low

If there was a limbo competition for robot vacuums, the DEEBOT Slim2 would win as it is only 2.2 inches tall. Since there aren't any, we'll have to settle for cleaning under beds, sofas, and under other furniture where you can't get to.

Tangle-Free Suction

We love our pets but not the hair they happily leave all over the house. This tangle free direct suction along with the dual side brushes cleans up human and pet hair easily and quickly.

DEEBOT Skills

High Efficiency Filtration System

All our DEEBOTs come with a high efficiency filtration system that reduces airborne contributors associated with asthma and allergies. So take a breath and smell that potpourri you put in your entry way.

Obstacle Detection Technology

This DEEBOT moves safely around your home with unit-collision sensors to detect objects in its path and navigate around them. So basically, the cat has met its match.

Stair Safety Technology

Baby gates? What baby gates? Okay, maybe they are important for babies but the DEEBOT has been taught (more like equipped) to not fall off the stairs with 3 groups of Anti-Drop Sensors that can detect a drop larger than 3.1 inches. If it senses a drop-off, it reverses direction and selects a new cleaning path.

Preparing a Welcoming Environment for Your New Loved One

Takes Two to Tangle

DEEBOT is a like a solo dancer and moves to his own beat but if wires are laying around on the floor, he will get tangled up, lose his rhythm and stop cleaning. So pick up the wires and let DEEBOT dance away.

Getting Home

Like the majority of us, DEEBOT enjoys getting home quickly after a long day at work. And just like us DEEBOT sometimes can be so tired he has a little trouble finding his way back. We are loving people so let's help him out by leaving the dock on an open, well lit area so he can find it easily to recharge.

2.4G Not 5G

Did you know some wifi routers have two speeds; 2.4G and 5G? It you didn't, no worries because many of us here didn't know that either. But since we now know, we want to let you know in order to connect the robot to your app, wifi has to be on 2.4G. Once you set up the robot, you can move it back to 5G.

Unit has its weaknesses, but does get the job done well
PLUSES:- Low height of 2.2 inches means it can go under furniture which other bots can't.- Very low noise level, not quite silent, but not a menace like my Roomba Discover or Neato Botvac 80. The dog mostly ignores it.- Very easy to program for daily cleaning (just double-tap the power button at the right time).- No rollers to clean.- Filter is easy to clean, because most dirt is caught by first stage of filter, a mesh screen which is easily cleaned under running water.MINUSES:- Manufacturer claims it cleans bare floors only, not carpets. However, I found it does work well with wall-to-wall carpeting. What it cannot handle is a small step-up on the ground, whether it be climbing on to a rug, or climbing over the barrier between a tile and hardwood floor.- It gets stuck in narrow passages. You will learn where these are and have to find a way to block them so it won't go there.- It does not pick up all the dirt when it passes over it, however, it runs for 90+ minutes, so it returns to clean each spot multiple times, and does get the dirt in the end.- A major flaw is that if the Slim2 is taken to another room away from the charging base, then once it is done and the battery is nearly empty, it will keep moving around the room searching for the base. This results in an overly discharged battery, which is not good for the battery. There is no way to disable this behavior.GENERAL:- The peel-off plastic films were completely loose on the product. If they can't put these plastic films on properly, they should leave them off.- The brushes move loose dirt toward the suction port, however, they cannot loosen any stuck dirt. The port has weak suction, comparable to the suction part of a Roomba Discovery (the Discovery additionally has rolling brushes, which pick up most of the dirt).- When cleaning a room in AUTO mode, the Slim2 keeps running until the batteries are almost exhausted, even if it is a small room. So it runs for 90-100 minutes instead of 10-20 minutes.- Navigation is a combination of methodical wall-hugging and random movement. However, it is not nearly as effective as my 10 year old Roomba's random navigation. It can get stuck in some spaces for a long time, and is really only suitable for a simple rectangular room.- Finding the charging base can take half an hour in a "L" shaped room with lots of stuff in it!- Photos show some baking soda which I freshly sprinkled on the floor, then the result after the Slim2 ran through it without its two brushes, then after it ran through with both brushes attached. This demonstrates the weak suction. The good thing is the Slim2 does eventually get the job done.- In another test, I used the Slim2 to clean a bedroom with wall-to-wall carpeting. When done, the bin was half full. I then cleaned the same room again with my Roomba Discovery. It picked up very little additional dirt, showing that the slim2 had done a thorough job.- In my last test, I used the Slim2 to clean small eggshell fragments left by the dog on the kitchen's tile floor. I then cleaned the kitchen again with my Roomba Discovery, which picked up many times more eggshell fragments than the Slim2 did. The shows that the Slim2 is not effective at picking up "heavy" dirt, due to its weak suction.

I really love this little vacuum. It saves me a lot of sweeping. I love on a dirt road that gets a lot of traffic. So we’re constantly dealing with dirt and dust and sand everywhere. Everyone tracks it in the house. Not to mention our two dogs. One short haired one Aussie. This saves me so much time between vacuuming. I used to few like a slave to my floors, trying to keep them “clean” or at least where we can walk around without socks or shoes. Must be cleaned after every use. I have to take off the brushes and get the hair untangled from them (did I mention we also have three long-haired females in the house?). The sand builds up quick in the filter and it requires me to take it apart and clean it more often than I’d like, but I wouldn’t complain about it, just noting it. Battery life is what they say. My main floor is pretty large and I wouldnt mind an extra 30 or 45 minutes. Gets stuck on small rugs and wires and under the corners of my dining table all the time. I’m constantly having to readjust it. Again, no big deal, except that I can’t leave it running when I’m not home for that reason. I would never let it run at night either. The beeping from being stuck would frustrate me. Overall, great purchase for the price. I’d love to be able to take the wheels off and get the hair unstuck from there, too.

This is a real-world review of the DeeBot Slim2 vs. Roomba 650

NOTE: The Slim2 is meant for use on bare floors ONLY. Don't event think about using it on any carpet.

I purchased the DeeBot Slim2 to replace a Roomba 650 which lost vacuum functionality. The Roomba performed well during its lifetime. When it came to replace it, I was looking for a little more features.

The Slim2 is roughly the same size of the Roomba but is more of a square shape. It stands 2" high on the floor, opposed to the roomba' 3" height. This makes it MUCH better to fit under furniture. The Slim2 goes places where the Roomba could not reach. The charging stations is slightly bigger than the Roomba version but, it doesn't have the big power supply the Roomba uses, which is much better IMHO. With the Roomba, I had to zip tie the cord to the charger and power supply to keep it tidy.

We have multiple dogs which causes a bit of a hair issue. Having the Roomba with the brushes, I had to clean it very often to remove hair. The Slim2 on the other had does not have brushes, aside from the twirling sweepers that push dirt and hair toward the vacuum area. The sweepers twirl at a slower rate than the Roomba which is actually better. The Roomba often would knock items away from itself. The Slim2's vacuum is quite strong and works quite well. The only downside is the fact the dustbin is substantially smaller so, it's necessary to empty the bin after each run. But this is substantially less maintenance than the Roomba.

The Roomba tops out at 70db in sound level. I imagine if the vacuum in the AeroVac bin worked, it would be even louder. The Slim2 on the other hand tops out MAX at 60db. It is MUCH quieter. The documentation says it will run for 110 minutes - and that is quite accurate.

Performance-wise, both units functioned well. I believe the Roomba has a bit smarter navigation system. The Slim2 will randomly pause at a wall, seemingly stuck. But it will move eventually. Just a little strange if you are used to Roomba. I also feel the square shape gives the Slim2 a slight disadvantage. It can get stuck in tight spaces since it can't rotate in a circle as well, due to the corners. For example, our dining room chairs are just large enough for the Slim2 to slip inside. It has gotten stuck here but, only once so far. Aside from the shape disadvantage, I say the DeeBot is at least on par with the Roomba for cleaning, if not better. The dust mop feature is a nice addition as well.

Scheduling cleanings is much easier with the app for the Slim2. One BIG bonus for me was the ability to schedule multiple cleanings per day, whereas the Roomba only does one. With dogs running in and outside, some days we really need a touch-up run. The remote functions well, but must be in line-of-sight. The app obviously does not have this limitation. Oh and the app will automatically set the time on the Slim2 - a point the tech support person I spoke to didn't even know. Awesome.

Bottom line, the Slim2 is a tremendous value for the price. It performs quite well when used on bare floors. Small navigational issues still plague it but nothing that keeps it from doing the job.

I will update later after much more use.

UPDATE: After almost a full month of daily use, I can say the Slim2 definitely worth the money. It far exceeds my experience with my Roomba in almost every way. I have yet had the need to remove the front wheel to remove hair, which was an almost daily chore with the Roomba. The ability to schedule multiple times a day is a godsend. The runtime is still ~110 mins. The navigation is meh, but workable. I still consider the dust bin to be too small but, it's easy-peasy to empty. No biggie. Now if it would only mix me a martini when I get home...

UPDATE #2: Five Months status report - There have been some issues...

The vacuum fan has developed a rattle and screech, which sounds like either some foreign material got in its housing or a bearing or something has gone bad. It's not *terribly* bad but, I fear an early expiration of that motor.

I have found the bumper sensors to not adequately activate by slower impacts. This along with the wheels just spinning in place, the unit can get itself stuck simply against a wall for minutes at a time for no real reason.

Additionally, the unit now only travels at its slow speed. I know this is due to debris blocking the sensors but there's another issue there: I have carefully cleaned the sensor widows, tried blowing out any debris with both canned air and an even air compressor - Nothing has solved the problem. (Note, I'm a diligent maintainer of my robots, care and feeding them at the very LEAST weekly. This is not due to neglect.) In desperation, I decided I wanted to remove the outer housing to blow out the inner components using compressed air. But after removing the screws I could not figure out how to remove the outer housing. It is not user-accessible in any real way - short of possibly breaking the housing, which is a real shame. I suspect i could resolve issues by a simple air-cleaning but, I can't do it.

OTHERWISE, the unit still functions well. Runtime is still at 110mins or so. The suction works well, albeit currently with a bit of a death rattle.

Given its short usage of just 5 months, I'm concerned by these issues that SHOULD be relatively easy to fix by the consumer. This unfortunately forces me to drop my rating from 5 stars to 3. This underscores a point that manufacturers need to pay attention to. In real-world usage, the consumer needs to have the ability to replace parts and properly clean internals. Fan motors go bad. Internal dust can hinder in performance - we accept that as users. The design of these devices needs to take these points to heart. Let us properly maintain our products, don't make them a black box with no access. We don't want disposable, we want dependable.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really like this product
Reviewed in Canada on December 29, 2017
Bought on Black Friday Sale at the recommendation from a colleague who owns a different Ecovac model.

I really like this product, but heavy warning: when they say no carpets, the mean it. I kind of wish I'd spent the extra money on the next model up which can handle carpet. They advise folding carpet under to discourage the vacuum from trying to go on it, but depending on the weight of the carpet my vacuum still thinks it can tackle it. Vacuum (aka Skynet) had gotten hung up on carpets, sliding door tracks, and clothes/cords laying around. Also gets a little overzealous under a short desk and gets stuck.

I wish the vacuum was smart enough, (and maybe this is something that could exist in the app) to be able to tell it to go to one area of the house. (i.e. ok this area you're exploring right now is called "bedroom", then at a later time tell it to go to whichever room specifically on the ap). Second wish would be it being able to recognize when it's truly stuck and to notify the app or go to standby mode so it doesn't kill itself attempting to get unstuck (see foot rest under desk/sucks away the battery).

Best cat toy I've ever bought.

Jokes aside, if you take what Ive said above into consideration, and keep traps and snares off the ground (headphones and clothes and even the charger's power cord) I could not highly enough recommend this product. Great price, comes with replacement accessories (mucho gratias!), and overall I'm happy with the little guy. Would buy from Ecovacs again.

PS It works really well on my entirely hardwood floor / tiled 460sq ft condo,

3.0 out of 5 stars Great robot vacuum...as long as it works.
Reviewed in Canada on May 12, 2019
Worked great for 8 months, then one of the brushes quit working. I did some research recently to see if it was fixable. I reinstalled the app and it worked again for one cleaning. Now one of the brushes won't stop turning.

Contacted the company and they seem eager to help, but it seems like it might be unfixable as after a couple emails they started asking about when I bought it for warranty purposes. As mine was over a year old, the warranty had expired.
3 stars because while it worked excellently while it worked, but only lasted 8 months.

I loved the height as it went underneath my tv stand easily. It was easy to use. The app needed a bit of work, but worked reasonably well.

I am currently trying to kill the battery and attempt to hopefully "reset" it. Fingers crossed!

*edit* I removed the battery, killed the battery, contacted customer service via email for help and was asked about the warranty when I gave all the details they asked for to attempt to fix it. I assume that means its dead. I bought it over a year ago so it definitely exceeds the 1 year warranty. Too bad. When it worked, I loved it, and it would be 5 stars for a hard floor cleaner. I will likely buy a different brand next time in the hopes that it will last longer than 8 months.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy unless you have American address.

Terrible product and terrible service. I am very dissatisfied with this product and with ECOVACS. I was looking for a vacuum to run on the hardwood one a week in between vacuum to pick up crumbs and pet hair. I purchased this in February and it worked ok for a couple of months. It would get stuck on the sliding door frame or on the curtains about half the time but you could manage around those by opening curtains before you vacuumed. However, the battery went after about 10 uses. It no longer can hold a charge, rendering the whole unit useless. I emailed ECOVACS and got a quick reply that they would replace the vacuum, but once they learned I was a Canadian and did not have an American address, they simply stopped responding to me. So I am out the full price. I would never buy another ECOVACS product because of their inability to service a Canadian customer.

I grabbed this robot vacuum on sale and at $150 it's 4 stars but at the full price (closer to $300) it might be a bit less. I have bare floors on the entire main floor and hate sweeping so often so I was hoping this could cut down on the need for that.

Setup was pretty easy but it took a couple tries to get the robot on my WiFi network. The app is nothing really special but I do like that you can see the robot's status so if you're not home you can tell if it actually cleaned or got stuck.

I've had it a few days now and it does an awesome job for the price. You do have to watch it the first few times and see where it might have issues and how you might be able to remedy them. For me, I have bar stools that have a base it can ramp up on and get stuck and it also ramped up on a boot mat and got stuck in some cords. Once I figured those issues out (putting a bezel on the stools, rolling the mat up a bit and cleaning up loose cords) it goes about its routine every day with no issues. Mine goes for about an hour and 45 minutes before running out of battery and finding home.

Cleaning is decent. Make no mistake, it's not smart and doesn't learn but the random path does a reasonable job and over time it gets everywhere and maintains things in a nice state so you don't have to sweep as often. The rotating bristles do sweep most debris towards the vacuum and because it does so many passes it gets most things eventually. It nudges things pretty often and sometimes it can do it quite hard so pick up anything fragile that could be knocked over. I use the mop attachment and it does help get all the hair. I don't have any ledges or anything the robot can get stuck on and it the drop detection does stop it from tumbling down stairs.

2.0 out of 5 stars I probably has it's purpose, but it's very narrow and specific

Let's start with the good. It's good at avoiding things, it's light so it won't push thing around and it's low profile so if you have low furniture, it might fit. Also it's navigation is fairly decent, and it always finds it's way back. One pro/con thing is the wheels. They drive well, help it drive on thin rugs, but more on that below.

Now with the bad: it does NOT have a rotating brush so the collection capability is very limited and of course very much reduced on carpets. This drives its purpose - for homes with only hard floors and no carpets. Not even rugs - because it's struggling with anything that is taller than like 1.5cm. Rugs, short hair carpets or the memory foam mats. Also, if you do have some of them around and your furniture is just a bit taller, it can get easily wedged under it and die on a low battery for being trapped for so long.
As stated above, the wheels are great, but with that, this gets on top of cables and not grab them, but it can get stuck on them. Also, with the low profile, it might get to places you did not account for and you may need to set up some barriers.

At the end, this is an okay robot, for VERY limited use cases where you only have hard floors and no carpets and low sitting furniture. It's not for everyone.

I have not tried the app as the initial two test runs proved it unusable for me.
