- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2023We watched "Vienna Blood" when it ran on TV. It is a gripping drama, exceptionally well cast and acted. It is one of those rare mystery series where you have to really pay attention or you will miss an important element. We watched it again soon after receiving this set and noticed things we had missed before. The setting is beautiful (isolated scenes notwithstanding) and appears to be true to the period.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023Bought all three. Love them!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2020This is a great series. The scenes of Vienna are excellent. I found myself guessing where scenes were shot. The only negative aspect of Vienna Blood is there are only 6 episodes at present. I heard the BBC? PBS? German ZDF?, Austrian ORF? are considering more, I sure hope so. The acting is phenomenal, the characters are richly developed and the stories move quickly and have some excellent twists and turns... In truth I am not sure which of the two leading characters I like more...
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2021Wonderful engrossing period mystery series. Beautiful scenery both indoors and outdoors of Vienna. Good acting; The chemistry and interaction between the two lead actors is quite good. The actor who plays Inspector Reinhard because I believe English is not his first language has a quite interesting diction and intonations which makes for a believable and entertaining performance. The plots are also unique and, given that one of the lead actors plays what we call today a psychiatrist, lean towards studies of the mind, motives and trauma. The plots at times can be a tad too intricate but not so much that at the end of the story one is left with the impression that it was too far-fetched.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2020Performances, sets, costumes all serve to make this an enjoyable series. The main character, Max Lieberman, uses psychoanalytical methodology to profile killers and help bring them to justice. What's not clear on the packaging is that there are four separate cases included on the two disks, rather than a continuous mini series. I don't know if the series will continue but I certainly hope it does.
Note that I have read a couple of Tallis' books and the series captures them well.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2020Vienna Blood is an excellent series. I hope there will be another season. The acting is great and all the actors are well cast and believable. The writing is mature and keeps one mentally engaged and interested in what well happen next, dialogue is mature and true to human nature. A very visual production, the scenes and costumes take the viewer back in time, add visual texture and color. The result is overall refreshing!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020This series did a great job in presenting a murder mystery in turn of the century Vienna. The sets appeared authentic and the writing and acting were terrific. Its a bit of The Alienist in Austria with Freud's new theories on human psychology pitted against the medical profession's harsh approaches to mental illness. Both characters and plot were interesting. We enjoed this series very much and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vienna Blood
Really enjoyed watching this DVD Vienna Blood. Great viewing but make sure if you live in a country outside of the DVDs Region that you purchase a Multi-Region DVD player. I live in Australia and have the majority of my DVDs for Region 1 or Region 2. Australia is only Region 4 hence a Multi-Region DVD required. Also called an All Purpose DVD player.
