There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
The response was quick and the person that I was chatting with was very polite and professional. He offered to take control of my laptop in order to fully diagnose and repair the issue. At this point I was a little hesitant due to other reviews I had read, but he assured me that no harm would happen to my laptop settings and there would be no charge for is service since the printer was new/under warranty. I figured, what the heck, and downloaded a driver to allow him control of my laptop. He diagnosed the problem, which turned out to be a router setting, and quickly fixed the issue. He then downloaded the correct drivers for the printer from HP and reconnected the printer to the network. He then provided very detailed instructions on how to download the drivers on the other laptops. During the entire time he was very polite, knowledgeable and polite.
The printer has been working perfectly ever since. I had a power surge today and "my heart stopped" when the power came back up; thinking that the printer would again loose the connection to the network. But, as soon as the router re-booted the printer connected automatically connected to the network and is working perfectly.
Regarding the HP instant ink service, when I purchased the printer I also purchased an Instant ink registration from Amazon for $9.99 which offered 30 days free. During setup HP was offering months of free service if I setup Instant ink at that time. I did and today, two days later when I looked at my instant ink account it shows that HP has already shipped my first months shipment and the account shows that I will not be billed for ink until Nov 30th. That's 5 months of ink for $9.99.
Bottom line, so far the printer is working great and the print quality is outstanding and the 5 months of ink for $9.99 is outstanding.
This printer can burn in hell.
It prints fine, as long as you print regularly and you have unlimited budget for printer ink.
But if you're like my family, we print here and there, sometimes weeks between. And if so, this spawn of satan will start having print quality issues probably because the ink is dry.
So then you run the clean print head program, again and again.
After running the clean printer head program 10+ times the print now looks normal.
But then you see that after all that printer head cleaning the Yellow or Cyan ink level dropped 50%. And you start getting warnings about ink low.
So then you start going to OfficeMax to buy ink. And a single little HP 952 ink cartridge for colors run about $25 each. And if you buy a full 4-pack (black and 4 colors) it's about $115 at OfficeMax.
Now you do that once every 3 months and you spend waay more on ink than what the printer cost.
And on top of that your wife, who is *not* tech-savy, keeps complaining that the printer doesn't work, there are streaks in the print (dry ink), it's out of ink, and you keep having to sit there and run the F****** printer head cleaning program, and keep going to OfficeMax, and your wife is pissed at you because you keep having to go out while she's watching the screaming kids.
And you're pissed because you're pissing money out the window on ink.
And then you buy some aftermarket ink cartridges that cost much less than HP ink cartridges but discover that HP printers prohibit it, and even if you fill the original cartridges it doesn't care and insists they are empty when in fact not.
So one day you say F*** I*. And get rid of this piece of crap and swear to never buy HP printers again.
If you print **once in a while**, and you want to print photos and documents, then DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER
Top reviews from other countries
The printer comes with a set of Instant Ink cartridges. Took me a while to grasp the concept. It will probably confuse you at first. You basically subscribe to a service that will automatically send you replacing ink cartridges when they come low. The price of the subscription depends on how many pages you print per month. The cartridges come with a 3 month trial of Instant Ink. Know that the cartridges provided are setup cartridges. They have very low ink. Once you sign up for the trial, then the printer will phone home and HP will ship you brand new full instant ink cartridges. Instant ink cartridges are NOT the same as retail cartridges. They can only be used with a subscription. If you don't sign up for a monthly plan, they will cease to function and you'll have to buy retail cartridges. Important: Retail cartridges bought from a store (like Amazon) ARE NOT instant ink compatible so be warned. Only cartridges bought directly from HP are compatible and they are not refillable. For now, I'll stick with the subscription. It's very low cost and for a year's worth of subscription fee, it is far less than buying a whole set of new cartridges.
Putting the printer on the network was extremely easy due to the large touchscreen. My previous Samsung only had a numeric keypad that was a massive pain. I recommend you give it a static IP on your network if you can. Makes it easier for all computer to print without having to scan the network for the IP (and the printer is asleep). So far quality of printing has been excellent. I don't print photos, though. After having a color laser printer, I decided to try inkjet again due to the cost of those toner cartridges. The price was horrible and instant ink sounded good. However, past experience with inkjet wasn't positive (10 years ago) due to the ink drying in the cartridge if I haven't printed in a while. Will have to see how this one fares.
I did not have to install any special softwares or drivers for the printer. Google cloud print works perfectly and Windows 10 had no problems detecting it and setting it up. If you want to scan remotely, then you'll need HP's software, but scan to email is my preference. I don't use the fax part of the printer so I can't comment on that.
UPDATE: It's been 7 months with the printer and we used it to photocopy, mass scan, etc. Stills works today. Never had a jam. The black ink cartridge ran low and HP sent me a new one automatically. Was happy for the no hassle. Scan to PC is flaky and it doesn't always sees the other PCs on the network so I instead use Scan to Email all the time. So far we haven't had any ink drying issues.
