I am beyond thrilled with this product, and it is worth every penny. My active 2 year old rescue pit bull girlie is a challenge to exercise, due to pulling and reactivity. But when I put her on this and let her run, we didn’t die, lol! It did exactly what it was supposed to; kept her far enough away from my bike so we didn’t crash into eachother and enough tension to keep her from pulling me down with any distractions (squirrel!). I felt super sturdy and safe. When we were done, it clipped right onto the back rack, out of the way. Attached left side of an ancient Peugeot road bike frame easy peasy at my local bike shop. It ended up being super simple but even the shop owner took some time to figure out the confusing instructions (the pictures are not great/easy to follow). Anyway, 5 stars!

I'm a rather timid bicyclist. I don't like to ride in traffic or in crowds. However, I have a foot problem that makes difficult for me to walk any distance and I can't run at all. Cycling is my main form of exercise. I like the local rail trails and I regularly go about 10 or 12 miles. I always felt so sad having to leave my 80 lb Black Lab home. He's young and active and the exercise would be great for him.
I decided to give a bike leash a try and I read the reviews of all the leashes online. As I said, I am a timid cyclist. The Bike Tow Leash is the most expensive, but the reviews said the dog could not pull you over if your weight was on the bike. So I did it; I bought a BTL and gave it a try. The first day I was too scared to even get on the bike -- and the dog CAN pull it over if you're not sitting on it! I walked him next to my bike every day for a few days and finally got brave enough to ride the bike around my cul-de-sac...And the thing works. The dog can't pull it over and he's controlled at a perfect distance from the bike.
I've gone a mile or so with him in my neighborhood 6 or 7 times and we did a mile on the rail trail over the weekend. I'm taking it slow to build his fitness level.
You cannot feel the dog pulling at all with the BTL. I know he is pulling, because I can see him, but you can't feel it. He went around behind the back wheel once while I was walking him next to the bike, but when we're riding he just doesn't do that. Get him up to a good speed and he doesn't notice anything; he's just running. He stays right next to me and runs with me. I feel completely safe and in control of my dog.

I find it simple to install and remove. Most days I don't remove it, I just clip it up under the seat. It's hooks to his collar easily.

Since my dog is black I was concerned that he would not be visible to cars, so I bought a bright vest for him to wear when we are in my neighborhood where there might be cars. On the trails I didn't bother. I do carry another leash in case I need to take him off the bike for any reason.

The BTL is a smartly engineered, simple, and effective item. I have a exercise partner now that loves to run and never refuses to go. I recommend it highly.

We are the proud new owners of an adult (approx. 6 - 7 year old) labradoodle that we adopted a couple weeks ago from an animal shelter. As first time dog owners, we've been reading materials about how to make this transition successful, and stumbled across Cesar Milan. We've been following his formula to successful dog ownership, exercise - rules / limitations - and affection. Our dog is high energy, and during our first week even though he was walking 4 miles a day and running two miles on top of that, he wasn't really challenged enough. I tried taking him for a bike ride just holding on to the leash, which was very exhilarating but highly dangerous for both of us. That night I started digging into reviews of bike leashes, and settled on this one.

There are plenty of other reviews about the specs, so I'll focus on our experience. I have a Specialized 29er with disc breaks, and while it was a little challenging to figure out where to attach it to the frame, it wasn't impossible. It does not fit over both the chain stay and the seat stay, but I was able to attach it to the chain stay and it is very secure. It does not interfere with the disc breaks. When not in use, it slips up nicely and clips under my seat.

It was very easy to set it up and apply it right out of the package. I attached it right to our dog's 1" collar, and we were ready to go. I was initially a little concerned about it pulling on his neck, but as I've been observing him as he runs, it isn't pulling on his neck at all. It's merely a guide as he runs along. If this becomes a concern, I will purchase a harness as others have suggested. I had initially been having him heel on the right side, so it took a slight adjustment for him to be on the left. He did have a tendency to chew on it when we were initially getting set up, so we worked on that immediately to prevent him from damaging the leash.

He weighs about 50lbs. Ever since we adopted him we've been teaching him to be focused when we're on walks, and biking hasn't been any different. Any distractions that have come up have been very easy to correct. When I was stopped and another dog came along, he was able to pull the bike around to go sniff the other dog, so that might be a concern with a dog that has a tendency to randomly lunge.

I did not make a separate trip into our vet for permission to use it, as I had just had him into the vet last week and was give a clean bill of health. We have been starting out gradually, only allowing him to go a couple miles in the beginning. I hold him back in the beginning for a warm up, then let him run for a while, following it up with a walk on the leash for a cool down. So far, our longest ride has been about 4 miles. I have been keeping a close eye on his pads for wear and hot spots. He still seems to have plenty of energy, but getting better exercise than we could provide by only walking and running at our pace seems to have helped tremendously with his excess energy. Getting exercise at his level has allowed him to be much calmer around the house, and has cured a great deal of his restlessness.

Being a newbie dog owner still, I have weeks of experience instead of years, but a key seems to be that you keep working with your dog in all kinds of different situations. Starting in a less trafficked area with few distractions seems like a wise choice to me, and then gradually work in more obstacles and distractions. Having a consistent working relationship with your dog seems key too.

All that being said, it's going to be a whole lot nicer to get out in the rainy, 50 degree weather today and go for a 25 minute bike ride instead of a 45 minute walk, knowing that my dog is still getting the exercise he needs. If we have issues with the structure and longevity of the device in the future or further safety concerns, I will update.

I ride my bike with my Weim pup and this leash is super flexible, durable and it stabilizes my bike even if my pup wants to chase after a squirrel.
It’s very easy to install and no tools required. This is the BEST PURCHASE I’ve made and it’s well worth the money. I feel in full control when cycling and I never have to worry my pup yanks me in different direction.

The leash sent to me was the shorter version of the BTL which is not for a bicycle, and was also Red and not Orange as described. If I were to reorder it would be directly from the supplier, to avoid misunderstanding and disappointment irrespective of the Amazon seller refunding the difference in cost for the shorter version which is slightly cheaper.

I use this on a disc braked eMTB. Works really well with my German Shorthaired Pointer dog. Only issue I had is ensuring the mount doesn’t block the speed sensor on the frame which uses a magnet on the disc.
