*****Two year update*****
I gave my 26 gallon compressor and all the accessories to a friend because this Dewalt Impact gun replaced the need for an air powered tools.
This is probably my favorite tool in the garage. I do all the maintenance on both of our cars including tire rotations. In the winter, I install winter tires/wheels on my car. This cordless impact saves me a lot of time swapping out the wheels. I have it down to where it takes me less than 20 minutes including the final tightening with a torque wrench.
The batteries last so long for me that I might have to charge them two times a year. As far as the strength of the impact, they always pull the lug nuts off with no problem, might not be strong enough for a 3/4 ton truck or larger.
I have used this for various other car projects including installing a couple tow hitches and removing factory skid plates. The light that illuminates when you hit the trigger is very handy in dark areas where you might not be able to hold a flashlight. Overall very satisfied with the purchase, very good product!
The seller, shipped immediately and is backed by DEWALT (I don't think some others are).
Origially, back in 2018, I selected the DeWalt DCF880 over similar product from Bosch because the torque spec for Bosch wrench was lower than that of DeWalt's. Now, the new Bosch model GDX 18V 1800CD15 Freak brushless motor wrench has similar max torque, weight, and dimensions as of Dewalt's. The Bosch model has the added advantage of having a brushless motor, better speed control and a unique feature providing both 1/2 inch square and 1/4 inch hex combination connectors. If I buy an impact wrench today, I would try the new Bosch model.

Original Review
Finally, I got to use my DeWalt Model DCF880HM2 impact wrench to replace the shock absorber assemblies on my Honda Accord. My concern was whether it can loosen the lugnuts on the wheels. It was no problem, as long as the lugnuts were not over torqued to begin with. It will loosen the lugnuts that are torqued to factory specifications for passenger cars & light trucks (75 to 80 ft-lb torque). I do not know how high it can go on the torque before failing to do the job.
My second concern was whether it is small enough to manuever around the brake and suspension area. I never had a problem using it for removing the shock absorber on my car, even with the deep impact sockets I used.
Yes, you can buy a more powerful impact wrench, but it will be bulky. This wrench is light, small, and sufficiently powerful for most automotive taks. It is just at the optimum sweet spot. I recommend it to any home mechanic who doesn't or would not want to own air tools. It makes working around cars more efficient and enjoyable. I expect the Litium Ion battery to last for years, with occasional use. Storing the wrench for a long time should not be as problematic as the old NiCd battery technology. In general, if you want to store a Li-ion battery for a longtime, store it with 40%-75% charged. Battery manufacturers store lithium batteries at around 60 deg F and at a 40% charge level. Batteries self discharge even when sitting on a shelf, not connected to anything. You can store the batteries at a lower charge level, but you have to check the charge level more frequently to make sure it did not completely self-discharge. The reason is that storing Li-ion batteries while completely discharged will harm them. Storing while fully charged is not as bad, but it is not recommended. The battery has three light bars indicating the battery charge level. It is prudent to check the charge level at least once a year and charge it to the second bar level, if the level has fallen to the first bar or below. Do not store Li-ion batteries in your garage where it can get hot. The cooler, the better.
If you have been shunning portable battery operated tools, like I did before, it is time to reconsider.
It's also a very comfortable tool to use. My hands didn't cramp after holding for long periods of time, and the designers made the gripping surfaces and contours appealing for people with small and medium sized hands.
I did a lot of research before buying into Dewalt - and had a few experiences with cheaper brands I'd rather forget, mainly with cruddy batteries. So far I'm very happy with the quality of this tool and am being very careful to maintain the batteries correctly.
But I would get the detent pin version. Socket fall off.
