This pan is excellent. I purchased this one and the cast iron grill pan as well, and they are both great. It heats nice and even, the pre-seasoning is good and with additional seasoning it gets better. Other reviewers have mentioned "black flakes" but this is simply the result of the seasoning process, as well as bits of old food that weren't properly cleaned off. In either case the effect is harmless and will be present in all cast iron cookware especially if it is not properly cleaned and reseasoned, or if acidic foods are cooked in the pan before proper seasoning has been achieved. If you cook eggs in the pan before it's well seasoned, especially without enough fat, it will leave a lot of crap behind that eventually will flake off. Even "pre-seasoned" pans will need additional seasoning and to be broken in properly before they reach optimal usage. There's definitely a learning curve with cast iron but as long as you take care of it, don't use soap on it, make sure it is well heated and oiled (get it really hot and rub some bacon grease or cooking oil on with a paper towel) after getting wet, and don't scrape it too much with metal utensils you will be fine.

I’m kind of surprised about the reviews. I’m not sure where I got my Goodcook pan, it was in the closet for a while. I took it out cleaned it, seasoned it and after several uses (bacon, steak, salmon, eggs) I find it to be my best non-stick! The bottom of mine is very smooth.
I also dug out my Lodge pan that was pre-seasoned. It’s okay after several uses as well but the bottom is rough. I am considering “cleaning” the pan to remove the pre-season and re-seasoning it. Other people may find the opposite true between pans! But I guess it really comes down to how you care for your pan.
I would ding any cast iron as not as versatile, maybe that’s just my experience level as I have only made steak, lamb, eggs, bacon, shrimp and salmon in them. Anything acidic can take some of the seasoning off. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
Disgusted. Have had this pan only a week. I used it for my dinner last night. Today I can see spots all over it where the "finish" came off. Meaning, I ate whatever the pan is coated with. It's supposed to be cast iron .... what finish??
Cast Iron pan was fine but it has deep ridges on bottom and combined with the weight [8lbs] it leaves scratches on a glass top stove - recommend cast aluminum
