About the author
Growing up in a small town, Leah Holt's imagination was able to run wild. She loves to write romance that is full of broken heroes you can't help but fall in love with. Having three children of her own, life is filled with far too many cartoons and not enough bad boys. Writing has become an outlet for her to let out all of the dirty, forbidden thoughts inside her head. When she's not typing to the point her fingers hurt, you can find her downing coffee and trying to keep track of reality. Which is never easy when she'd rather have her nose in a book or creating stories that will leave you breathless and wanting more.

Redd became a thief at the age of sixteen when his drunk father wouldn't take responsibility for what he and his sister needed. The convenience store only netted a couple hundred dollars but paid the electric bill and put food on the table. He felt bad at first, but with each job it became easier until he received a call asking for help. Now he would make the heist for a client, turn it over, get out and get paid. He promised himself he would retire after the last heist but as luck would have it her overheard two men in a bar discussing a jewel worth $50,000 they would be guarding. The only problem Redd had was he had made himself a rule not to steal from someone's home. Now the weight of the heist was battling with his self imposed rule. By his reckoning and the conversation, whatever this was didn't really belong to whoever it was anyway so, his ego convinced him he was doing just one more heist and then this would be over. Or would it?
Leah Holt has once again shown her vast talent at finding a way for her words to take a reader and immerse them into the emotion of her characters. This story is filled with a plethora of them and I was on a rollercoaster with twists and turns not only from the emotional angst but with the plot. Everything just flowed together and pieces fitting together like a master puzzle. Bijou, Redd and even Vicki will make you feel like you're going through everything with them. What surprised me most, there is a character I had really despised throughout the book until the end when it took another twist and had no choice to admit it was misplaced. That's when you know an author has exceeded your expectations. Great job!
The story begins. It's a hard read. But it does have a silver lining. There's actually peace. Bijou finds hers. Redd was hard. He was a hard man. I don't know how old he was but he was no angel. He did things. He lived through tragedy. He lived through immense pain and suffering. They found love. Even though I didn't really feel it...I saw it. I can see how they fell for each other.
This is a tough read. Especially the prologue. Just warning you. But there is a story here. An incredibly intimate story. It's full of tough scenes and rough encounters. And seriously intimate moments.
Yummy moments.
But . . . .
The things I could NOT stand continued to pile up until I just could not finish this one.
The Hero= loooooved Redd. Loved how he was detailed, how his character was continuing to build.
The Hero's little sister: liked her too.
The overwhelming kill factor for me?
The Heroine. Hated her, loathed her. Everything about her. Everything about how she was written: her personality, her actions, her thoughts. Every-flipping-thing.
She was TSTL from the very start. Kidnapped, blindfolded, tied up, at the physical mercy of at least 2 men that violently & viciously threatened & struck her. So she mouths off & threatens them. Really? Makes absolutely ZERO sense. So, tied up, blindfolded, against 2 violent men, in an unknown place & location where
is she going to go? Or what is she going to do? I suppose this is to show how strong she is as well as what a spine she has (& I know this is fiction) but seriously? And, the heroine once saved by Redd is herself violent & attacks him after being safe at his home with his little sister for over 2 days.
Now, I know she's MESSED UP BAD with the last year or two of her captivity but the extreme OTT way she was written & the OTT thoughts she had . . . .
Just no, I couldn't keep reading.
Others may like/love/admire her just fine but I certainly didn't/couldn't/wouldn't.

Redd is not for the faint hearted but oh so worth reading this dark romance as a one-click must read.
