Hooked On You (The Chicago Rebels Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
Violet Vasquez never met her biological father, so learning he left his beloved hockey franchise—the Chicago Rebels—to her is, well, unexpected. Flat broke and close to homeless, Violet is determined to make the most of this sudden opportunity. Except dear old dad set conditions that require she takes part in actually running the team with the half-sisters she barely knows. Working with these two strangers and overseeing a band of hockey-playing lugs is not on her agenda…until she lays eyes on the Rebels captain and knows she has to have him.
Bren St. James has been labeled a lot of things: the Puck Prince, Lord of the Ice, Hell’s Highlander...but it’s the latest tag that’s making headlines: washed-up alcoholic has-been. This season, getting his life back on track and winning the Cup are his only goals. With no time for relationships—except the fractured ones he needs to rebuild with his beautiful daughters—he’s finding it increasingly hard to ignore sexy, all-up-in-his-beard Violet Vasquez. And when he finds himself in need of a nanny just as the playoffs are starting, he’s faced with a temptation he could so easily get hooked on.
For two lost souls, there’s more on the line than just making the best of a bad situation… there might also be a shot at the biggest prize of all: love.

As a general rule, I like most hockey based romances, but one thing I particularly love about this series is the fact that all the characters are adults, in theirate twenties- to mid-thirties. No college kids, no young adults and it makes all the difference for the quality of the backstories.
This was the first series I read by Kate and I am getting ready to dive into the rest of her catalogue. Her writing is enjoyable, fast-paced but we'll described, the heat, banter and chemistry between the characters are all on point and the result are excellent books!
I didn't think anything could have been better than Cade and Dante's story in this series, however Hooked On You has given it a run for its money.
This story is sweet, sexy, emotional and a little broody - and I love it. There has been attraction between this unlikely couple for a long time, and they have been circling each other, not willing to act on said attraction. You could feel the UST build up between them, and you just know things are going to be hot AF if they ever get together.
My heart ached for both our lovelies as the story progressed. They both have a lot of baggage they bring along with them, and I just wanted to hug them both.
I like to think that Violet and I would be great friends.
It am sad to see this series come to an end, as it has become a favourite.
I can't wait to see what Ms Meader bring us next.
Ms. Meader delivers an utterly fantastic read in this third book of her Chicago Rebels series, which I loved from the very beginning because these two have such strong chemistry and I could understand why Violet feels the need to taunt the hero after what happens when they first meet. Will Bren see Violet as anything more than a party girl? Will Violet be able to win Bren over, considering they didn't get off to the best of starts when they first met, which makes him all the more intriguing to the heroine?
Both the main characters are an absolute delight because of their interesting back stories, their growing relationship and everything they go through on their journey to happy ever after. Their interactions are fun and I loved how good the heroine is for the hero's girls and vice versa, especially when Violet tells cheesy jokes that had me smiling. Moreover, the heroine has been through a lot and I liked how she handles everything she goes through in this story. Really, she's resilient, courageous and I liked that she was willing to take on the role of nanny. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine was the growing bond she shares with her sisters. They didn't know much about each other when they were thrown together because of their late father's will, but I liked that Violet's sisters do everything in their power to show her that they want a relationship with her.
While the hero, he's been through so much and I loved how he's gotten his life back on track after the rough patch he had that could have ruined his career if he didn't do something to turn things around. I also liked the support he's received from those that care about him, which is proven by the close friendship he shares with one of Violet's sisters and the friendships he shares with his teammates. Then there's the relationship he shares with his daughters and that he would do anything for them, which is proven by what he's doing to ensure their happiness. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is his determination to win the heroine over and that he gave a relationship between them a chance because Bren needs Violet just as much as she needs him to heal from their pasts.
Overall, Ms. Meader has delivered a superb read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance full of exquisite heat and passion and had me loving these two together; and the ending had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after. Certainly, I loved how much good Violet and her sisters have done for the Chicago Rebels, yet it was the words Bren says to Violet to show her that she's the one for him. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up wonderfully, as Violet and Bren are so happy and it shows through the gratitude Violet feels for everyone in their lives. I would recommend Hooked on You by Kate Meader, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope or books by authors Kelly Jamieson, Jamie Davenport, Sylvia Pierce and Lisa B. Kamps.

I have been eagerly awaiting Violet and Bren's story, and Kate Meader definitely saved the best for last in the series!
Violet only recently met the stepsisters she knew existed but that she wasn't allowed to meet until after her father's death, and she is very different from both Harper and Isobel. After a scare with the big "C", Violet is focusing on living her life to the fullest because tomorrow is never guaranteed. She never dreamed of owning one third of a hockey franchise and she knew little about the sport when she arrived in Chicago, but the team and her sisters are growing on her despite her best efforts not to set down roots. She first met the burly Scot known as the Highlander on the day she learned the details of her father's will and she couldn't deny the attraction after a long dry spell, but she had no idea that Bren was also the captain of the team she now partly owns. He shot her down in any case, and she has never forgotten it.
Bren was not in a good place the day he and Violet met, but every time he sees her his defenses kick into high gear. She loves to tease and poke at him, and he gets riled up in all the good ways by that. He is still in the first twelve months of sobriety after a stint in rehab and losing custody of his daughters to his ex-wife, and he cannot allow his little head to rule him in this situation. If he has any hope of staying on the straight and narrow and getting his girls back, he cannot afford to be associated with a party-hard good time girl like Violet.
Of course he has no idea exactly what she has been through or how much they might have in common, and the sparks that are flying could go either way between attraction and distaste on any given day. They both get under the skin of the other though and it doesn't take long for the heat to kick into high gear. Bren's ex is one serious piece of work, and suddenly both his girls are living with him again while Kendra takes some time for herself. He knows that translates into trouble on the horizon as she schemes and plots her latest maneuver to try to manipulate him. Unfortunately the girls are just a pawn to her, and that truth has heartbreaking effects on them. Bren is determined to be the best father he can be in effort to make up for the years of bad decisions and poor parenting skills while he was drinking, and he cannot afford to allow Violet to break his concentration... until he realizes she is the perfect solution to his problems. He needs someone to help with the girls, and both Franky and Cat take a liking to Violet in spite of her fear of kids.
The girls are the most adorable kind of schemers! They genuinely like Violet (although Cat is a moody pre-teen for awhile after she arrives), and they want to see their dad happy so shenanigans will ensue. Bren is absolutely heartmelting in his moments with them, and Vi is a swooning puddle in no time at all. She doesn't want to fall in love, but Bren is exactly the type that she can go down hard for... if only she didn't have her mind set on traveling the world with her share of the value of the team.
Hooked on You is about building relationships on many different levels, and it finally dawns on Violet that she doesn't need to travel the world when she has everything she could want right there in Chicago. The question is: does her new extended family really want her? And where does she fit into Bren's future if she does at all?
I loved this book! From the snarky banter between Vi and Bren, the moments with the kids, and various interactions with the team and her sisters that break down the walls around her heart to the combustible moments that set the pages on fire, I definitely enjoyed this story the most out of all the stories in the series. For those who have read the other books, we get plenty of the other couples to keep us up to date on their lives as well as a cameo or two from the author's Hot in Chicago series! I am going to miss this group of characters, but Hooked on You will definitely be on my re-read list in the future.

I have come to love the three sisters: Harper, Isobel, and Violet. Together they owned the hockey team the Chicago Rebels and for the last season, they have helped the team get to the playoffs in one way or another. They also have become stronger as a family while helping each other overcome their own perceived shortcomings. Lastly, they all have a weakness. They seem to have problems not sleeping with a hockey player.
“Sheesh, I’m thinking we need to put something in the players’ contracts.” She mimicked writing something. “Must be willing to sleep with management.”
From the three, Violet has been the one who knows the least about hockey but who likes to give the team her enthusiasm before each game. She also loves to poke "Nessie" aka the Rebels Captain, Bren St. James. What her sisters don't know is that months ago, she propositioned him before she knew who he was and he turned her down. Of course, the Highlander didn't know she was recuperating from a double mastectomy and he would have been the first guy to "see" her in all her glory.
Bren St James is a recovering alcoholic. He has been sober for a year and besides playing the best hockey he can and trying to be a good captain for the Rebels, he wants to rebuild his relationship with his two daughters. He carries a lot of guilt from what he put them through and he doesn't want to mess up his second chance.
What Violet doesn't know is that Bren turned her down as part of his recovery not because he was not interested. But now months later, he doesn't know for how long he can keep on ignoring his attraction for her. Yet, when he suddenly needs someone to take care of his two girls, Violet steps up. Keeping himself away from her is not feasible any longer.
“So sure it’s going to happen, Scot?”
“It’s inevitable, lass. We can fight it or accept it.
I love Violet and Bren together. Their banter and texting were great!. They were very different but together they made perfect sense. Violet projected this confident personality while hiding her insecurities. Bren was determined to save his relationship with his two daughters and knew that alcohol was not the answer. He also realized he wanted Violet in his life and he stopped fighting it.
“But when you’re ready, I’ll be here. Waiting with my girls for the one person who made us whole again. Who gives me hope and makes me smile.”
As always, the rest of the cast of characters were present to help this couple realize what they had and to fight for each other.
Cliffhanger: No
4/5 Fangs

In the preceding books the author mercilessly teased readers with just enough of saucy Violet and grumpy Bren to have us yearning for more by the time it was finally their turn. The wait to discover their back stories was almost excruciating. In Hooked On You, their relationship slowly develops; giving a detailed peek into their lives, and Meader didn’t shy away from the hard subjects of cancer and alcoholism. Creating a positive, flawed, but likeable character that’s battling that type of lifelong addiction isn’t an easy task, but Meader did a superb job. I fell hard for the broody Scot. I already adored Violet for her humor and feistiness, but loved her even more after seeing the other sides she tried to keep hidden from others and deny even to herself.
Hooked On You was a wonderful ending to an awesome series. It was hilarious, sweet, and emotional, with a whole lot of Kate Meader sexiness sprinkled in. Being the greedy reader I am, I wish the HEA and epilogue had been longer and more detailed. I would have preferred being eased into the future instead of having such a quick wrap up. I sincerely hope the author will surprise us with a “check in” book or novella sometime in the (near) future.
The Chicago Rebels series has definitely earned a place on the keeper shelf alongside the author’s other books to be enjoyed again and again.
