Awesome Story
Another beautifully written book!! In this book you have Earl of Darby [ Nicholas] who found out on his wedding night on December 24th that she was not a virgin and was pregnant. Darby was very upset and he left and when he returned and he found his wife had committed suicide and left him a letter of apology and named the man who had raped her and it turned she had been raped by a member of society Duke of Colvin. Nicolas had been trying to get evidence to bring him to justice. Then you Miss Hannah Pendleton who is looking forward to her season and seeing Giedion and then she finds out that he is married. She is bound and determined to break a few hearts of her own, she throws herself into the exciting and hectic schedule of a first season. During a Masquerade Ball she gets a note from a man telling her to meet him and he signed with a C. Well she thought it was from Nicholas but, it turned to be from the Duke of Colvin. Well he tried to rape Hannah and she fought him and screamed and then Nicholas breaks through the door and saves Hannah and the Duke of Colvin is arrested. Nicholas realizes that he is in love with Hannah and Hannah is in love with him. You really need to read this book to find out what happens and how it happens!! This was a different kind of Christmas love story!! This is a must read book!! I truly loved this book!!

Earl of Darby

Will an Earl sets on revenge, be able to let the past go to make room for a new love ...

Slowly I am discovering the many authors writing for this charming series, The Wicked Earls Club.
And today Mrs Aubrey Wynne was one of them.
As she pointed out in her Afterword note, the story, a Christmas themed tale begins on the worst omen, yet, it is to emphasize the journey the hero will face until he finds peace.
Nicholas, perfect name for a avenging angel during Christmastide. While he was as much a victim as his late wife, he bears the burden of her irremediable decision, and never allowed himself to rest until he sets her soul free from her suffering. But in doing this promise, he got himself trapped in the way, now locked up in the coffin of the walls surrounding his heart.
Hannah has longed for her soulmate all her young life, and she definitively thought she had found him in the person of her brother’s childhood friend, while her instant attraction to Nicholas unsettles her to no end, until she sees a glimpse of the real man he tries to hide behind his society’s mask. From there, she decides to open her eyes and heart to catch him as he might not realize, yet, how much he will need her.

In all, a wonderful story of healing and the strength love can give us.

On a special note, I loved the author gave some particular scenes the outlook from both sides, it is refreshing.
I am just a bit disappointed is the dashing cover model is not sharing the blond hero, fair features.

5 stars for this moving tale.

I was granted an advance copy by the author through Netgalley, I preordered too my own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

History comes to life in the Once Upon a Widow series. The Earl of Darby is a page turning and wholesome Regency romance which includes historical and cultural details of the time: women's schedule of a first season and chivalry. Aubrey Wynne crafts descriptive passages of the glitter of London, intriguing characters of Miss Hannah Pendleton and the Earl of Darby, external and internal conflicts move the plot, concluding with a Happily Ever After.

Earl of Darby (Wicked Earls’ Club) (Once Upon A Widow Book 4)
By: Aubrey Wynne
5 out of 5 stars

The story Earl of Darby (Wicked Earls’ Club) (Once Upon A Widow Book 4) by Aubrey Wynne is a historical romance. It is a wonderful story to read and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished it. I loved reading about the characters of Miss Hannah Pendleton and Nicholas, the Earl of Darby. Hannah is a young woman who is scheduled for her first season. She is learning that the one she has had a crush on has fallen for another. Hannah feels the attraction when she meets Nicholas. Nicholas is a man who is not seeking out anyone to marry. A tragedy has affected every part of his life. He is surprised when he feels an attraction to Hannah. Will Hannah and Nicholas act on their feelings for each other? There is another who has noticed Hannah as well. Will Nicholas be the one that Hannah chooses? What does the future hold for Hannah and Nicholas? Read this book to find out. I enjoy reading historical romances and this story is an example of the reason why. I love reading about romance, masquerade balls, parties, and the attention that is lavished on the young woman by the men in attendance. The story has some heartbreaking moments however I found that there were more times that were heartwarming and I had a smile on my face. Don’t miss out on Miss Hannah Pendleton’s first season. I highly recommend reading this book.

Dastards still abound today. It is fitting that peerage or power cannot relieve a person of the hateful hurt to other the retribution of punishment. Thank you. Audrey for weaving the strands together for a happy conclusion. Lady Bertie is s delight. Looking forward to the next chapter! Thanks again.

Let me preface this review by stating that I have never read anything from this author before. This was an okay read to me. It was entertaining enough. The plot line moved along at a good pace. The characters were mostly likable. (The hero was a little bit too wicked for me but to each his own. The extremely heavy drinking coupled with his year long adulterous affair were especially off putting). I do wish that the hero and heroine had more dialogue together to show the growth of the relationship. I did like the aunt and her side story. There was also a good jest about leg-shackling included. Although there were quite a few editing errors, this was still a modestly good read.

This very well written story immediately captures your emotions as you learn of a heartbreaking suicide committed by a new bride on her wedding night. The Earl of Darby shares some blame in his poor brides demise however the real villain is now his target and he sets out to avenge her death by trapping her rapist who also planted a poor undeserving babe in her belly. The Earl has a hardened heart and a rakish reputation that only love can hope to change. Enter his sweet, innocent sister Maddie and the equally sweet and innocent sister of his friend, Hannah; the Earl finds himself feeling less rakish, very protective and more determined than ever to avenge his wife's death. Aubrey Winn has presented her readers with another wonderful piece of literature. I highly recommend this book!

A tragic beginning at Christmas casts a dark shadow over what should be a happy celebration. Nicholas, Lord Darby, seeks revenge for the death of his young wife. Five years later, he's closer to his goal. Then into his life comes Hannah, his best friend's sister. Her coming out is at the same time as his sister's. His job is to watch out for both ladies while out in society, but the evil from the past now threatens Hannah, the woman he loves. A sexy dark hero, a sweetheart young lady and her aunt, Lady Roberta who keeps everybody's spirits uplifted, move the romance to a conclusion that makes two couples happy. Recommended if you're looking for a hero.

I have had this eBook on Kindle for a while and finally decided to read it. So happy I did.
This was very different from most historical romances. It has deception, desperation, sorrow, anger, intrigue, a great cast of characters and a wonderful love story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the first of the Wicked Earls series that I have read although it is #4. So now I am hooked and I will read more of the series and maybe start with the first one now.

What a terrible start to marriage for Nicholas, Lord Darby, and Alice his bride, whose mother's had conspired against both, and brought about a dreadful end. Lord Darby was supposedly a rake of the highest order, but there wasn't too much evidence of this in the story, and the heroine Hannah Pendleton could see that his actions hid a deep sadness. The story was quite light, being about the introduction of Mattie, the sister of Lord Darby's and Hannah Pendleton, the sister of a friend of Lord Darby, but underneath lay Lord Darbys fight for the justice of his first wives death bought about by the ill treatment and her ruination by the Duke of Colvin. The story has a Happy Ending and I would thoroughly recommend it.
