I decided to start the research on beginning a spice database, to catalog, index and store my spices in a logical yet convenient manner. Most of us have spices in the cabinet that are older than most marriages. While not always bad, many herbs, spices, and peppers have volatile oils that are diminished with age. The first order of business is to keep them fresh. While many spices in the past were packaged in metal or glass containers, that is not true as much anymore. A spice may be perfectly shelf-stable for several years, but left to the air and contamination can render its flavor dull and lifeless. Knowing that I will most likely keep some spices longer than I should, they need to be stored in glass containers with an airtight seal. That is doubly important here in the south with the heat and humidity. (That has taught me a lot on storing any dry food products).
The next step was to find suitable containers that hold enough for several uses, while not so much that it takes up too much room. I knew they needed to be glass and the glass needed to be square as round containers take up too much room and tend to turn in the cabinet so you are always turning the spice bottle around so you can see what it is. After that, for it to be adequate for my spice collection, there needed to be enough in the set. I found these packaged 30 per unit to be a good number.
I took the plunge, ordered the spice jars and they arrived. They were very well packaged in a well-designed shipping box with a compartment for each jar and adequate padding all around. My shipment arrived intact. Also included were some labels. I didn’t like the labels, too few of the spices I use and too much work to hand label. The jars themselves are common glass so care should be taken in handling. They are not especially thick, none of them broke when I hand washed them. The metal securing bands do not appear to be dishwasher safe. Cleaning them is a real pain. They must be dry before any product is put in them so figure an overnight project cleaning them.
Finally, the time arrived to clean out the spice cabinet. Mine is small but I love the fact that it is in a cabinet right above my stove. This took hours. After removing the spices, I set all of the spice jars on the counter next to them. Now here is where your organizational skills will come in, or turn this into a disaster. Decide how you want to label them. After more than 5 hours over 3 days of work and contemplation. I chose to use my Brother PT2430PC label printer. This is a low-cost unit that plugs into a PC or laptop and has a simple editor in it. I suggest you get a piece of paper, copy down 10 spices you have at a time. We are not in a rush here and want it done right, take your time, take a break from the project and do it right. Go to the computer and make the labels. Now, one by one, pour your spices from their packaging containers into the jars. I have found that these spice jars hold just about the equivalent of a typical, small retail spice container. I didn’t use the funnels, just carefully poured the spices into the jars (keeping my Dustbuster handy).
I repeated the process until, to my surprise, all the jars were used and I still had 10 or 15 more spices leftover. I ordered another set. Being totally out of control at this point, I decided to go onto Amazon and order another 10 more obscure spices that while generally not used often, should be in my cabinet.
As you can see from the photos, the spices in my cabinet are not organized by any standard. So I went and copied down the name of every jar and went back to my trusty computer and created a list of all my spices, then alphabetized them. To save time, I decided to wait until my second set of jars arrive along with my additional spices until rearranging all my spices in the cabinet alphabetically by name.
I would rate these jars a good value. Good quality and an overall well-designed product with a few caveats. The labels provided should simply be blank and Avery compatible so they could be put into a printer and individually printed. It appears to be a good balance of material quality and price. While I don’t feel these are a bargain, they are a good value. When you take everything together, the product fires on all cylinders. Good quality, good packaging, good concept. I can’t find anything ‘wrong’ about the product. I highly recommend them for spice management.
Here is a list of my current inventory:

As you can see most serious cooks are going to need 2 packages of these. A few extras can replace any that get broken along the way. You are looking at a pretty major project, but when you are done, you will be very happy! I imagine these could be used for other things but they seem to be made for spices.

With the bad out of the way, they're fantastic little jars that seal nicely, are well sized, and look phenomenal. Bonus, I used the foam in the bottom to organize my drawer, it cuts easy with a sharp utility blade. The labels are a huge bonus, although there's some weird ones that are present and some standard ones that are not (i.e. garam masala and xylitol is included, but not five spice or any sort of pie spice). However! You do get labels for pretty much everything but the kitchen sink, so you can label your flowers, legumes, tins, jars, bits and bobs, and all the random stuff in your pantry.
The labels do have quite a bit of UK based names, but if you look them up you'll find the equivalent and can use them all over your kitchen.
The funnels are a bit useless, but I'll keep them for liquids.
Update: Don't use the labels on anything you plan to wash. They disintegrate in water.

Absolutely think the preprinted labels are a waste of time and money. Would really appreciate just plain labels so I can write what is in there. Find the choices of the items on the preprinted labels really annoying.... you could only fit about three star anise in these little jars! Total waste and I would like more plain labels
