As a longtime collector of My Little Ponies, I knew I had to get this set when it was released.
These are faithful recreations of My Little Ponies from the 1980s, when they first came onto the market.
Basic Fun has remade the original 6 collector ponies and now, a set of the first generation of rainbow ponies. These come with a sticker, one shooting star brush, and 5 ponies: Skydancer, Parasol, Stardancer, Moondancer, and Parasol. For some reason they left out Sunlight, but we're not too mad :)
PROS:
The colors are much more vivid than the originals but their bodies are durable, soft, with strong glitter symbols and accurately printed eyes. The poses are near identical to the original molds and are very much like the "real" thing. Love the sticker with all the ponies together. It's adorable.
CONS:
With more than gentle brushing, the hair on these ponies begins to come out, not in clumps, but in strands at a time. Haven't brushed any of them bald yet but an eager child may pull out a lot of hair with brushing. The smell can be very strong but I did find it went away after the ponies had been deboxed and sat out for a while.
Overall I think this set is an excellent value, a great find and makes my inner child very happy.

Almost perfect. Happy customer nonetheless.
Only one small issue. I've been collecting a lot of these MLP reissues and this is the first time I've had any complaint whatsoever. The cutie marks on parasol and moondancer are a little skewed on one of their sides. And all of them had hair issues. One had hair coming out of it's neck where the head attaches to the body. One had a random long clump. Some had long strays. And they were all very stiff at first. After brushing they were softer and I imagine that had something to do with the scent. I was able to pull out all of the hairs that were an issue though. So they look fine now. I also didn't pay enough attention to the description. The title never mentioned that they are scented. I was going to avoid those bc I've heard complaints about discoloration and I'm also sensitive to smells like that. I do think this might be why some of the cutie marks arent perfect. The pictures show that one umbrella on parasol has a mark of imperfection and the other two photos of moondancer show the difference in each side. One side is skewed and not right.

I purchased this set as a gift and compared Windy to the one I had from 1983. The hair colors are brighter on the 2017 version and the pony is a slightly darker color purple (though my old pony might have faded over time). The 2017 pony had a movable head while the 1983 pony’s neck is immovable. The new ponies seem good quality and are a great gift for any child.
