Be cautious with the stand. The base is plastic which melts if touched by the iron.
Before I bought it, I read that the open plastic around the shaft had been added to newer models for safety reasons. Well, I managed to touch the hot metal shaft the first time I experimented with this little iron - OUCH! So watch where you place your fingers when you use the iron.
The cord is neither too long nor too short, just about right. The small stand that comes with is a stand, but is too flimsy and easily overturned for me. I will have my hubby build me a sturdier stand for it for safety reasons.
Other tips are available as a kit or individually. I had no use for any but the tip that comes with the basic unit, so am unable to comment on the usefulness of the additional tips. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I purchased this iron to replace a Dritz mini-iron that works well for small projects, but is much too bulky for tiny appliqué projects.
