Product Description
The Gränsfors Ceramic Grinding Stone is a man-made sharpening stone with two grinding faces: a course side (180 grit) for repairing damage and heavy wear, and a fine side (600 grit) for sharpening. The ceramic composite makes the stone both durable and strong. In contrast to natural sandstone, a ceramic grinding stone can be given a more precise grain size. Its shape is round and flat with a bevelled edge to prevent chipping. The fine side is 2/3 of the thickness, as this side is usually used and worn down most. The stone is normally used with water but can be used dry. The stone comes in a protective rubber case.

To get axes this sharp before was a quite laborious process involving several stones and strops. This one compact unit does a great job by itself.
I will keep my Lansky puck on hand for machetes and such, and for repairing nicks, but the GB puck is now my go-to for axes. I would also be comfortable using it for field-maintenance for convex-grind knives.
The design and form factor are also really nice. Small enough to take in the field. The neoprene (?) case not only protects the stone from drops but also makes it easy to hold with your fingers far from the edge.
Comes in soft case that holds the stone while you use it, fits in a pocket or pack with ease so you can take it with you for touch ups on the go. I can't recommend this enough. I'm sorry it took me so long to spend the money and get it. I do not regret the money I spent, only the time it took me to decide to spend it.
That being said, I had to take a star off due to the bang for the buck ratio. It is quite a bit more expensive than the other pucks and field sharpeners I've used in the past. I think it is a little overpriced for what it is. If it was 20-30 bucks, it would be a no brainer over the other sharpeners, but 50 is a bit on the high side when I think bang for your buck ratio. I kept it and use it and it works very very well, but probably wouldn't get it again unless it was cheaper.

-macht was es verspricht
