I love this!
I wanted to try a new diet but I did not want to eat the total amount of eggs required for health reasons so I came across Tabita Brown's video where she was making Vegan Devil egged mixture that required I use the black salt. It said the black salt would make the mixture taste like egg, which it did and it also smelled like egg. I love it and will definitely use again.

I had never heard of this product before but when I read about it, I decided I needed to try it because I really do miss eggs. Black salt was called for in a recipe to make a vegan egg yolk for dipping toast. It was really delicious.

How did I even come across this product? Someone in a vegan soul food group on FB put me on to this black salt when I inquired about the taste of Just Eggs. It was recommended that I use black salt to give Just Eggs that "eggy" taste. I'm not really fond of the "eggy" taste in regular eggs so I was skeptical but I'll try almost anything (food related) at least once. To my surprise it wasn't black and it definitely has that nauseatingly "eggy" smell for sure. I almost gagged just because in NO way did I imagine salt could smell that way. Smells like boiled eggs. And OMG AFTER I put it on my eggs and devoured the eggs I stuck my finger in the salt by itself because my eggs were so good. I had to see what the salt tasted like without being added to anything. Yuck. Again, salt that tastes AND smelled like eggs. Lol. Do not let my description and disdain for that eggy smell and taste discourage you. I really like this salt, it just threw me for a huge loop. I suggest sprinkling a pinch on your plant based eggs before you taste the salt that way you're not tempted to not use it. Using a pinch will not over power your dish at all, merely enhance the flavor and plant based eggs from my experience don't have an egg flavor so if that's the taste you miss then you will not be disappointed. Try it.

The DEEP brand produces a very good quality black salt. The salt has a great taste. This is my first time trying this brand and I am pleased with the quality. The salt was very fine in consistency which paired well in mixtures (i.e. sauces, curries, etc.) Due to the nutritional properties of Indian black salt, I was very eager to try it in my cooking. Most recently, I have used the black salt in tofu scrambles and other vegan recipes that needed that essence of “egg” in the dish for the added flavor and aroma. The black salt also worked really well in a vegan egg salad that I prepared. It has a distinct flavor that is very unique so is perfect for certain dishes. It is a welcomed addition to my spice rack and inspires me to get creative with recipes that will benefit from the unique flavor.

The only thing that I suggest that would improve the product, is if the packaging was re-sealable or closable in some way to preserve the freshness and pungency of the product. However, I just ended up pouring the contents into a sealable glass container which I keep in the spice cupboard and use as needed in recipes. It is also versatile and goes well in several dishes that I have prepared. Overall, this is a good product and a must have in your spice cabinet. It is an acquired taste but, one that you will enjoy experimenting with to enhance dishes with added flavor.

Add the salt at the end of cooking if you're looking for the vegan "egg" flavor with tofu scrambles. If you add it with the heat going, the flavor dissipates. Reminds me of the smell of sulfur just a bit, and I imagine what sulfur would taste like. Just a little eggy, but not too big of a deal. Loved the nostalgia of having egg, without the egg. Only complaint is that upon opening there's lumps of salt in the bag a little more than sometimes, but less than often.

Really small package. The package was open and crudely put back together. To be honest I wasn’t sure if I should take it to the police officer o open it up. I really didn’t see or read what was in the package
