We have a heavy upright for carpets and a canister for all-around use, but wanted something light and easy to use for quick clean-ups, including pet hair (cat) and bird feathers (lovebird) and general dust, to encourage more frequent cleanings, rather than less frequent ones. It works very well.
I looked at another brand that was highly rated but was only for hard floors, this one is good for carpeted and hard floors, a switch chooses which, and for carpets the roller or rug beater spins, but for hard floors it does not so does not mark or damage them. It is very quiet, easy to handle. I'm sure the heavier, traditional machines do a better job, but frankly this one looks like it gets everything, certainly fine for quick and effective clean-ups.
I understand that this is a corded version of a battery-powered Hoover (Linx). Not having a cord is a great feature to be sure, but your time before having to recharge is limited, and after some months or years, the battery needs replacement which costs about as much as an entire new machine, so i chose corded, and I'm fine with that.
Drawbacks? 1. Being light and easy, it does not have a huge bag or dirt chamber, so if your floor is dirty or a carpet with lots of "fuzz" shedding off, the vacuum will fill up with the dirt or fuzz fairly quickly, need to be emptied and perhaps the foam filter cleaned off if plugged with build-up. While it works on deeper pile carpets, I would use it primarily, if not only, for hard floors and for "thin" (not deep) carpets with little fiber shedding and not needing powerful, deep cleaning. 2. A related comment: Sone deep pile carpet fibers can build up or wrap around inside the cyclone chamber and it's a bit awkward to remove (tweezers help!). Again, if not used for rugs with long fibers from deep rugs or carpets will obviate this concern. 3. Like many or arguably all vacuums, some dust bunnies can get stuck on the edge of it instead of being pulled in and periodically one may have to remove them "manually", takes 10-seconds.
But again, if used for light cleaning of hard floors and "thin" rugs or carpets, it's great. If you plan on using this machine for full house including deep carpets and very dirty floors, etc., you will either have to clean the dirt cup and air filter frequently or use a heavier, more traditional machine. It's for surgical strikes or a room or two, not global war.
All in all, a very good unit and very versatile. I think it's excellent for hard floors and thin rugs or carpets, okay but needing more frequent maintenance if used on deeper rugs and carpets. It's effective, easy to use, quiet, light, etc. A larger dirt capacity would've been nice but it's light because it is not huge, and for bigger jobs there are bigger machines.
1) This vacuum is intended for low pile carpet (NOT shag carpeting) and similar area rugs (oriental/Persian rugs etc), hard floor surfaces (tile, linoleum, hardwood). It does a great job picking up dirt and particles. In fact, it does such a good job, you need to keep an eye on the bagless container! It fills up fast and needs to be dumped out often. But, it's super easy to do and replace, then back to vacuuming.
2) Yes, it does a good job picking up pet hair, however, if you have a long haired cat or dog, that hair may get caught up in the roller and then clog the inlet. I read some reviews that complained of this, but seriously, what were they expecting? Any vacuum with a roller will get caught with hair and need more attention to maintain it.
3) Yes, it picks up cat litter. And bird seed and small feathers. However, it's not a shop vac so don't expect it to work miracles.
4) I read reviews that complained about having to maintain the vacuum (belts, filter, checking the roller and inlet). Any piece of machinery will require some sort of maintaining, so I'm not sure what their expectations were of this vacuum? For the price, light weight, with a roller, bagless, corded, it works quite well! It picks up dirt and small particles better than most larger clunky vacuums. Easy to maneuver and go from room to room. Consider what your needs are before purchasing. If you need a vacuum that can handle a lot of pet hair, this probably isn't the one for you. If you need a vacuum to pick up large particles like spilled cheerios, dry dog food, dry cat food, you may need to get something with a hose attachment. But if you are looking for a light weight vacuum to do basic cleaning for hard surface floors and low pile carpeting, this one works great.
The instructions could be better, and the fit of the removable cyclonic section isn't great though it does function. When you remove that to empty what has been picked up you can also twist and remove the orange spinning vane to dump out what has gotten into the second chamber. The instructions never mention this. Cleaning and dumping the debris is pretty much a breeze. Suction is pretty good. Maybe not the only vacuum you need for heavy carpet though it performs pretty well even there.
Now when I first opened it the construction and materials seemed so flimsy you get a bad impression. I figured it would be no good. I do wonder about longevity, but so far it performs better than expected. Great replacement for brooms on flooring and good for maintenance vacuuming on carpeting. The swivelling head seems well thought out and is very handy for manouvring around objects. Very light, and handy. I find I use it much more often than my big vacuum. Keeps my place nicer until the deep cleanings with heavier duty gear. Might be the only thing needed for a college dorm or small apartment.

this is meant for light cleaning not really meant to replace your bigger heavier vacuum . You can use it every day if you choose to do so my goal I
to have this light one up stairs do my hardwood and area rugs that is it. Before I had a hoover over the shoulder vac heavy and awkward you have to put a strap over your shoulder and not light still have it but hope I do not have to use at all or very little . My only complaint I wish that it went lower to the ground meaning it does not fit under my coffee end tables so you need a dust mop to get under there. And it does swivel but only a little it does not have a full swivel head . So those are my only little complaints . But I over look them because it does such a great job. And is light weight is key. Like when you need to do that quick clean up when someone is coming you want to be able to crab something light and easy so it does not wear you out and has power and does hardwood and carpet. This little gem is great lots of power does the job if there is any thing negative on here they are being picky. It is a low cost stick vacuum and does and amazing job. I have one in Florida was shocked how well it works and I now have one here in Niagara falls Canada .
OK, so here is the rundown as to whether you want this vacuum or not. If you want an underpowered vac which will only be used for quick jobs this might be for you. You know that game you play of "I'd rather go over the piece of garbage on the floor several more times rather than just pick of up?' You'll play that game a lot more with this vacuum than if you just got the real thing. It feels pretty cheap and while its very light, it feels light in that bad way of lacking substance and durability.
Having said all that, here is my list of pros for if you really are in the market for a small, lightweight, simple vacuum.
It has a switch to go between no brushroll (hard floors) and brushroll (carpets) and the brushroll works decently. Its nice and simple to empty. The cord is decently long so you can get a good sized area. Its very light so nothing you wouldn't mind grabbing out of the closet for a quick cleanup. It has a reasonable (but not great) low profile which can get halfway under furniture. (Expect to be able to vacuum about a foot and a half under the edges of a low bed, but definitely not getting to the middle.)
