The MacBridge I received is a very snug fit for the current Magic Keyboard and Trackpad. I would say it's an exact, or perfect fit, but some might feel it's too tight. Almost imperceptibly narrow tabs pop over the top and bottom edges of the keyboard and trackpad, which in addition to the exacting fit means they become a unit. I recommend the MacBridge as something to install and leave in place. I don't recommend it if you plan to sometimes use the MacBridge and sometimes use the keyboard and trackpad separately--putting them in and taking them out is something you'll prefer to do infrequently.
I like how snug it is because the keyboard and pad don't fall out if you hold it upside down, even if you shake it, and allows you to treat the MacBridge as a single unit. You can pick it up with one hand and carry it around. Any way you hold it or set it down, it stays integrated and secure. I got this mainly to use keyboard and trackpad on the lap after having elevated the Mac to reduce hunching the shoulders and looking down. Using it casually on the lap while sitting on the couch means you move the thing around a lot. The MacBridge is a big improvement compared to separate accessories that slide off the lap or fall between couch cushions. It's easier, more stable, less fiddly, and probably safer than having them separate.
The white MacBridge looks like design from Apple and nothing about it seems like a kluge. Polycarbonate is known to be a strong plastic so presumably this will hold up well. It's slightly made--lightweight and thin gauge--which is good because it adds only about 155grams, but also might seem there is not a lot you're getting for $33. However, it's clearly well-engineered--that perfect fit--and has gone through iterations that keep it up to date.
An un-expected advantage of using the MacBridge is that the Magic Trackpad's edge-to-edge function means whenever you pick it up by the edges or corner you activate the click and something happens on screen. This isn't an issue when sitting on a desktop but it makes it tricky to use on the lap; MacBridge solves this problem by surrounding the trackpad edges with just enough material to make it easy to handle without creating stray clicks.
Install tip: Install the trackpad first as it fits slightly more deeply into the MagicBridge and it's difficult to fit the trackpad's thicker multi-layer top past the aluminum keyboard body if you installed the keyboard first. Whereas, the Keyboard can be installed relatively more easily with the trackpad already in. Still not easy, but relatively easier.
The included keyboard-shaped grey pad is a spacer that allows the keyboard's aluminum surface to sit at even height with the trackpad surface. The trackpad turns out to be slightly thicker than the keyboard body and the pad lets them sit evenly edge to edge.
A bit pricey, could be more affordable.
The MagicBridge is very well designed for its purpose, and a fantastic minimalist product designed to meet Apple's exact specifications. It will fit the Apple Magic Keyboard 2 and Magic TrackPad 2 like a glove. The cutouts on the back of the MagicBridge are precisely engineered for the Keyboard and Trackpads power buttons and lightning charging ports. Best of all, you can orientate your Keyboard and trackpad on either side of each other. Meaning if you wish to have the TGrackpad on the right of the Keyboard or left of the keyboard, you have this option. You simply slide the inner tray left or right for this purpose.
Both the keyboard and Trackpad click into place and remain stable. There isn't any movement or shifting once clicked into place. For me, this solved the very annoying problem of constantly having to adjust my Keyboard and Trackpad. There are 6 small silicone pads on the bottom of the MagicBridge keep it stable on your desk. The Macbridge also adds a slight angle, improving typing experience without adding bulk or compromising its thin profile.
To remove your Keyboard and Trackpad, there are 2 round cut outs on the opposite side. Use your finger to push your Keyboard or trackpad out of the MagicBridge.
Love this product and wish I had purchased sooner.
Thanks TwelveSouth.
