Customers are mixed about the speed of the rotary tool. Some mention that the variable speed works great, while others say that it runs slowly and has enough oomph. The lower rpms make it easier to control, while still providing enough umph. However, some customers say that the tool goes to full speed when plugged in and has no way to control it. The foot switch works OK, but the fine speed control needs to be improved. The tool heats up very quickly, and it takes forever to operate the chuck.

Customers are mixed about the noise of the rotary tool. Some mention that it's quieter than they thought, the motor sounds less stressed, and there isn't a lot of vibration in the handpiece. Others say that they can hear parts rattling inside and that it makes a loud noise and vibrates excessively.

I have wanted a Foredom for a long time but never could justify the price. I saw this on the web and thought I would give it a try. I got it as a gift from my brother, and turned right around and gave him one for his birthday. My Dremel is sitting on the bench being ignored for the most part.
I am sure that this will not last as long as a "real" Foredom, but so far it works VERY well. After years of wishing Dremels would run slowly, now I have something that really does run slowly and still has enough oomph to be useful. The foot control is not quite as smooth as it could be, and other reviewers have mentioned that it seems to wear out quickly, but it is functional. And when the whole unit wears out, I can buy three more for what one Foredom would have cost me. I'm not running down the Foredom, I'm sure it is a lot better quality; just saying that this unit seems like a very economical substitute. Time will tell!
It came with various grinding bits and a nice hefty tool case, I’ve enjoyed using it thus far!
But that tool lives in my garage, mounted on a stand I built for it that mounts to my workbench. But I also do a lot of work on guitars and other small hobby stuff in my office. And I'm constantly finding little jobs where it would be handy to have my flex-shaft tool in my office! The thing is, I don't like moving tools into the house from the garage, and then back again. I have gotten by using a Dremel tool , but now that I've gotten used to the power and flexibility of the flex shaft and it's foot control, I hate using hand-held Dremel tools. I decided to look at buying another Foredom, and of course, I looked first on Amazon. That's how I came across this one.
The price was attractive, given it's good overall ratings, so I took a chance. So far, I'm really happy that I did. For the price, I think it's a good fit for what I needed and wanted it for!
It looks, sounds, and feels a LOT like the Foredom. It's not as powerful, being a 1/4 HP vs my TX300 at 1/3 HP...but it's more than powerful enough for the jobs I had in mind. The motor is just as smooth sounding and about the same loudness as the Foredom. I haven't spent much time with the accessories that come with it, but they look like they'd be OK. I have tons of accessories for my other tools, so those were unimportant to me.
So far, there is only one thing I'm not crazy about, and that's the pedal. It works fine...I mean, it's not broken. But I don't like the way you have to move it almost halfway through it's travel before the tool starts turning. It's still very controllable...but it doesn't start tuning the motor till it's halfway to the floor. If it started the motor almost as soon as you pressed down on it (like the one for my TX-300 does), it would be even more controllable. The bottom of the pedal doesn't have rubber legs or padding, either...one end has hard plastic "legs", which are riveted onto the bottom. The other end simply has metal dimples pressed into the bottom of the pedal. That doesn't affect the function, of course, but my office has hardwood floors...I have to put something beneath the pedal to keep it from scratching the floor.
For those of you wondering if a Foredom foot pedal will work on this tool, the answer is no, because the plugs are different! The foot pedal for this tool has regular three-prong electrical cord plugs, like you plug into the wall. The motor is a three-prong male connector, and there is a matching female connector on the pedal. The foot pedal for my Foredom tool uses a plug like the one that you plug into the power supply on a desktop PC, and the Foredom motor has a male plug that matches it. I've got a lot of computer cables, including extension cables for PC power supplies, but they're the wrong gender. So, unless you're willing to cut the plug off of one or the other and replace it with a different one, you can't plug in a Foredom pedal to this motor. And that's a shame, because the Foredom pedal is better in nearly every way. better shape, better size, better bottom surface (rubber padding), and better operation.
So, I give it a thumbs-up, generally. But I took off a star for the pedal, which could stand some improvement.
This flex shaft grinder has plenty of muscle. It's not high speed-low torque ... It gives you both speed and torque. The foot pedal takes some practice but once mastered it is great. I've used this exclusively for almost six months. It has held up and works as good as the first day. Hey, honk if you love power tools ... lots of power ... tools
The SE Flex Shaft Grinder is great for jewelry making!
I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a flex shaft motor, but saw this and it seemed to fit my budget (=inexpensive). I've been very happy so far and like the pedal operated on/off and speed control much more that I anticipated. The motor sounds less stressed than with the smaller tools. So far it's been fine for occasional cutting, drilling, and grinding use on small metal brackets, ABS and styrene plastic, using small drums for sanding wood, etc. The handpiece stays cool and is relatively lightweight. In practice, the flex shaft is no more constraining than the power cord on the handheld motors. So far I've successfully used a wide variety of rotary bits and tools with the included chuck. I can't say how a collet would work because I haven't felt the need for anything beyond the stock chuck and haven't had an issue with bit centering or shank slipping.
A few minuses with this tool would be the lack of ability to lock in a constant speed, the need for a substantial hook to hang the motor, the fact that the resistors in the foot control can become warm, and the very very cheap included plastic case. For my applications these are minor factors, your needs may be different.
