I don't need wireless mikes very often so I wasn't going to splurge. If this worked, great, but if not, I wasn't going to video the event. I tried it out long before the event and it was very promising. I tried it out at a rehearsal of the event, and it was very good. It was perfect at the event. The only criticism I have is that there is no high end frequencies in the audio. None. It's very good, but it's not professional sound quality. Just very good and, for the price, outstanding. I'm very glad I bought it. I am using it with a Panasonic 4K camcorder.

Pretty good mics, though the price is high since you're buying the Nikon name.
Easy to hook up (I'm using them on a Nikon Z7), easy to pair. Reasonably long range, I never post signal when I was recording. Voice recording quality is good.
Not a 5 star because of two things: (1) They're bulky. Clipping them on your shirt is OK, but they tend to hang downward. Would not be appropriate for collar mounting. And of course, clearly visible since they're large. (2) Battery life is less than I expected.
Good mics but you might want to look around a bit more.

Got these for my D5...sadly, I'm disappointed in the sound quality & clarity.
I'm using them in a home studio setting, so of all places, the clarity should be at the highest level.
I've since purchased the ME-1 and I'm pleased - but, I wanted wireless.

My advice is to use the ME-W1 if you must & the ME-1 if you can.

My favorite mic is my Audio-Technica System 10 ATW-1101/H92-TH Wireless Headworn Mic System (priced fairly).
My 2nd fav is my Neumann TLM (very expensive) 103, but both use an XLR connector, requiring an interface to connect to the 3.5mm camera mic/headphone port.
The ME-1 is my 3rd choice (priced well and simple).
ME-W1 would be last choice (maybe will use it when recording outside). I see good reviews...a factor in me buying them...but, not for me.

Extremely sensitive and clear. Negligible self-induced background noise. Three hour alkaline battery life is about right but really designed for NiMH. Lag is ~0.2 seconds at a guess. Range is on the order of 75 feet. When I use them to amplify the voice of a weak speaker who is close by I combine them with my Bose QC20 noise cancelling earbuds so that I only get the background noise picked up by the microphone and not directly by my ears. This works wonderfully.

I used to use Zoom H1's to record audio during a wedding ceremony but it was a bit of a faff trying to sync up audio in post. The ME-W1 are perfect since they are small enough for the groom to put in his pocket without an unsightly bulge and easy to use.

Taking a single AAA battery, there's not a lot to set up. Turn them on and you're off.

My main criticism of the units are that they look too alike. So each time you have to figure out which is the receiver and which is the mic. Ditto with the plug. A slightly different coloured jack socket would make them easier to use. Instead you have to check and when you are in a rush, valuable seconds are lost.

But like I said, overall I really like them. When using them to make my own video I don't have to use a lapel mic anymore. The receiver is small enough to hang onto the camera too.

Sound quality is good enough for what I need although if you are an audiophile then you probably need a more expensive solution. It does pick up a bit of background noise.

For the price and flexibility, I think these are really good value. I'd love to see Nikon release the next version or another device which supports mixing so I could use multiple ME-W1's
