Yes, this pack really does contain 50 distinct colors. Each 6.5-inch felt-tipped pen has a white barrel and a color-coordinated cap, and variations of pink through red alone require about 10 different pens. (It depends on where you think purple ends, or orange begins.) Each pen has a conical tip that makes drawing thick or thin lines easy. And when you have all 50 colors on your best white shirt, it's nice to know that the inks are washable. The only drawback is that the pens come in a thin transparent plastic case that will probably not survive daily use. --Richard Farr

They can draw thick and thin lines, but I have found that they are hard to use for calligraphy/hand lettering. The tip bends out of shape when doing the thick downstrokes so it's not as pointy and it's hard to get a thin upstroke. Also, keep in mind that these are washable markers so be careful with water around these. I spilled a drop of water on one page and all the color like melted away. One more thing that can kind of be annoying is the color on the marker cap doesn't really match the color of the marker itself, which can be kind of annoying when it draws a different color than you expected. If you swatch and label all your markers though, this will solve the problem.

SCENTS: The scented markers included are pleasant, and not overwhelming at all. Our favorite scent is Roasted Marshmallow. There were no scents that seemed unpleasant to any of us. They do perfume the paper just a tiny bit when colored upon.
DURABILITY: Super Tips hold up a LOT better to children's hands and sometimes rough coloring than regular Crayola tips. The fine point is fine enough for most detail work, and the broad side is large enough for filling in that open areas aren't a trial of patience to fill in. They seem to be well-inked, lasting over many, many coloring sessions now with myself and 4 kids, and only the black (one of the most used) is starting to run out. Not only WOULD I buy these again, I am getting ready to order another set right now!
So naturally, I'm looking for different mediums to use when I color. I've used colored pencils and gel pens, so I figured it was time to branch out into the marker arena. Someone suggested starting with these as they're water-based rather than alcohol-based, and Amazon has them at a good price, so I got the 50-ct set.
Overall, I'm pleased. There is a good selection of colors, several shades of each, which helps to bring some variety into th mix.
What I DON'T like (and this seems to be a problem for ALL coloring mediums): the actual color of the pen/pencil/etc. almost NEVER matches the color of the cap/barrel/etc. I realize that colors will look different depending on the type a "color" of paper used as the background, but seriously, some of these are WAY off. I find myself having to make a "cheat sheet" on the paper I'm using just so I can get a clear picture of how the various colors REALLY look.
Like I said, this isn't just a problem with Crayola, but they make it a little more difficult because the pens have NO distinguishing markings on them whatsoever to designate a color number or code. I ended up putting little pieces of masking tape on each pen and numbering them myself just so I can keep the color charts coordinated.
All that aside, they work great once you figure out the colors. Colors are vibrant, and I had very little "bleed through" or feathering in an Angie Grace book. Bleed through and feathering depend a great deal on the paper used, so bear that in mind and ALWAYS test before coloring.
Overall, I like these - don't "love" them, but they're good quality water-based markers at a very good price.
