Updated 7.4.22After 3 years of ownership, Im experiencing consistent problems that has me in the market for a new laptop. Over the past month, either the keyboard is starting to go, or where the keyboard connects is. Everytime I turn on the laptop or use it, it has a hard time finding the keyboard and switches to tablet mode. I usually have to play with it for a minute, adjusting the screen to just the right angle for the keyboard to register. The second issue I've had for about 1 year. It will randomly power down, and wont power back on for at least 30 minutes. At first this happened once every couple months. For the past 2 month, it happens about once a week.Overall, I'm still very happy I got this when I did and plan to keep it around for travelling or using as a backup, but its now time to move on to something that can provide consistency. It was good while it lasted.Original Review:There are many great articles and videos online that give overviews about the technical differences between a PC and a Chromebook. I wanted to focus on the main things I use a laptop for, how it performed from a non-tech guy perspective, and my overall experience using a Chromebook for the first time.I am keeping in mind that this is a mid-range pricepoint for a 2 in 1 Chromebook so I am not expecting the world. I just wanted enough for day to day use (streaming videos, documents/spreadsheets, web browsing).Streaming:I use almost all the popular video streaming websites and was very satisfied with the Chromebooks performance. I had no issues with buffering or delayed loading times. Once I clicked a video or movie, it streamed all the way through with no problems or lagging. Of course this is also dependent on having a decent internet connection.Web Browsing:Surfing the web is quick and responsive. Pages load almost instantly both in laptop and tablet mode. No issues overall.Documents,Spreadsheets, etc:Google Docs and Sheets came preloaded on the Chromebook and everything ran smoothly . I decided to leave behind the Office suite and instead use these since they are free. I am able to use these apps offline too, so an internet connection isn’t always required, which is perfect for when I travel. It was an easy transition moving to the google apps. Again, I just use this for day to day things like writing papers, keeping simple spreadsheets, nothing that would require a high level of computing power.Start Up/Opening apps:Starting up the laptop from sleep or powering on only took a few seconds. It keeps up with a lot of modern tech. From startup it took about 3 seconds. From sleep it only took 1.5 seconds. Opening apps took just over 1 second.Overall Look/Feel:This laptop has a nice overall aesthetic. The tablet and keyboard feel heavier than they look, which is okay since I prefer a more sturdy product that doesn’t wobble. I think it has a pretty slim profile for the price point. However, it’s on the thicker end of the slim category of Chromebooks. One criticism I do have are the three logos/advertisements on the front of the Chromebook. Chromebook, HP, and intel are all advertised on the front of the case, cheapening the overall appearance.Portability:I like how this device can be used like a traditional laptop, tented, flipped, and laid flat. I am able to use this in all these positions while I sit at a desk, lay in bed, or am traveling. The keyboard is sturdy enough that I am not worried it will slide off or lose its balance. It also is sturdy enough to pick up just by the keyboard one handed.Screen:You will definitely notice that the screen has a 2400 x 1600 resolution which is incredible for the price. This is comparable to high-end laptops. Everything I look at is crisp and sharp. I am able to notice much more detail in pictures and video than I could on my previous laptop. There is a bit of glare that is comparable to most other laptops so you just need to position it correctly away from direct sunlight.Sound:This can get surprisingly loud for its size and can easily fill a mid-sized room. The speakers are on the edge of the screen, in the bezel, and they face you, which provides a more direct line of hearing.Experience Switching from a PC to a Chromebook:To be honest, I was expecting the transition to take a bit more time than it did. By the end of the first day of owning the Chromebook, I got used to the keyboard, I learned a few new shortcuts, and I fell in love with the touch pad gestures which make scrolling and tab switching very fluid. The only mistake I continuously make is my pinkie reaching for the CAPS Lock key, which doesn’t exist on the Chromebook keyboard and instead launches the search bar. Instead you use an Alt + Search shortcut to turn it on and off. I ended up going into the settings and switching the function of the search key to the CAPS lock, since the habit was becoming too hard to break.I did purchase and pop in a microSD card to give me a lot more storage capabilities and transfer all of my existing docs, pictures, music, and videos, which all worked fine with the preloaded Chromebook apps. I prefer to keep these items on my device rather than have them in the cloud.Problems:I haven’t had any problems with this Chromebook. I will be sure to update my review if I experience any issues with lagging, crashing, etc.Overall, I am happy to have switched from a traditional PC laptop to a Chromebook. The transition was easier to master than expected, I got a slimmer and more portable product, and the display is much higher than any other PCs I could find in the same price range. If you have done your research on Chromebooks and are on the fence, I recommend trying this out. I was worried I would regret the switch, but I have never looked back. This thing is awesome.

Original Review:
There are many great articles and videos online that give overviews about the technical differences between a PC and a Chromebook. I wanted to focus on the main things I use a laptop for, how it performed from a non-tech guy perspective, and my overall experience using a Chromebook for the first time.

I am keeping in mind that this is a mid-range pricepoint for a 2 in 1 Chromebook so I am not expecting the world. I just wanted enough for day to day use (streaming videos, documents/spreadsheets, web browsing).

Streaming:
I use almost all the popular video streaming websites and was very satisfied with the Chromebooks performance. I had no issues with buffering or delayed loading times. Once I clicked a video or movie, it streamed all the way through with no problems or lagging. Of course this is also dependent on having a decent internet connection.

Web Browsing:
Surfing the web is quick and responsive. Pages load almost instantly both in laptop and tablet mode. No issues overall.

Documents,Spreadsheets,etc:
Google Docs and Sheets came preloaded on the Chromebook and everything ran smoothly . I decided to leave behind the Office suite and instead use these since they are free. I am able to use these apps offline too, so an internet connection isn’t always required, which is perfect for when I travel. It was an easy transition moving to the google apps. Again, I just use this for day to day things like writing papers, keeping simple spreadsheets, nothing that would require a high level of computing power.

Start Up/Opening apps:
Starting up the laptop from sleep or powering on only took a few seconds. It keeps up with a lot of modern tech. From startup it took about 3 seconds. From sleep it only took 1.5 seconds. Opening apps took just over 1 second.

Overall Look/Feel:
This laptop has a nice overall aesthetic.

Chromebook, HP, and intel are all advertised on the front of the case, cheapening the overall appearance.

Portability:
I like how this device can be used like a traditional laptop, tented, flipped, and laid flat. I am able to use this in all these positions while I sit at a desk, lay in bed, or am traveling. The keyboard is sturdy enough that I am not worried it will slide off or lose its balance. It also is sturdy enough to pick up just by the keyboard one handed.

Screen:
You will definitely notice that the screen has a 2400 x 1600 resolution which is incredible for the price. This is comparable to high-end laptops. Everything I look at is crisp and sharp. I am able to notice much more detail in pictures and video than I could on my previous laptop. There is a bit of glare that is comparable to most other laptops so you just need to position it correctly away from direct sunlight.

Sound:
This can get surprisingly loud for its size and can easily fill a mid-sized room. The speakers are on the edge of the screen, in the bezel, and they face you, which provides a more direct line of hearing.

Experience Switching from a PC to a Chromebook:
To be honest, I was expecting the transition to take a bit more time than it did. By the end of the first day of owning the Chromebook, I got used to the keyboard, I learned a few new shortcuts, and I fell in love with the touch pad gestures which make scrolling and tab switching very fluid. Problems:
I haven’t had any problems with this Chromebook. I will be sure to update my review if I experience any issues with lagging, crashing, etc.

Overall, I am happy to have switched from a traditional PC laptop to a Chromebook. The transition was easier to master than expected, I got a slimmer and more portable product, and the display is much higher than any other PCs I could find in the same price range.
