Source: I'm an enthusiast of OG Dragon Ball and DBZ. Understand that this movie isn't going to fix any power scaling issues that have been plaguing the series since the Frieza Saga that Super completely destroyed. So, grab your popcorn, and prepare to enjoy the fireworks.
My only complaints are the lack of special features and the resolution. From time to time, I could see the pixels of the line work. So the resolution is probably sharper on the Blu-ray, but it's not worth it, knowing the green overlay is there. Really, it's a minor complaint, it's great and I loved rewatching the movie. You don't notice it most of the time even in a lot of the closeups. As for the special features, from what I saw in another review, they were removed anyway. Or at least any regarding Vic. Luckily his name is still listed in the credits, in the DVD version at least. I can't say the same for the Blu-ray, but it would be weird to edit out his name solely on that version. I say the movie is still worth a buy. The whole fiasco blows, but it's still a great movie and I don't think that undervalues the great work the animators and VO cast did. So let's all enjoy it and cherish the great work Vic did as Broly and as many other characters.
This was one of my favorite Dragon Ball movies. It was a fresh take on Broly, and one that I would love to see integrated into the series itself (although I doubt that will happen). As someone that has been watching Dragon Ball since I was a child on a black & white TV, while holding the antennae in order to get a simi-clear image, that is saying something.
I am used to the movies being far under an hour. This was like a fully fleshed out movie!
I don't think a Dragon Ball movie has ever had me on the edge of my seat quite like this one did. Truly, I think this is the most thrilling Dragon Ball movie ever.
Also before I go on, if that is your beef with this movie, watch the sub.
Anyway, this was everything I wanted in a Dragon Ball movie. The beginning gave me/and everyone else the backstory we always wanted from this show. Getting to see the history really drove me more into this movie and made me even more excited on what was to come. The fighting scenes and the way they animated it was absolutely brilliant. I would watch these fighting scenes for hours and not get bored.
While most people enjoyed the music that came from this movie, that was the only thing I thought was okay. But it still wasn't bad by any means and fit this movie perfectly. I highly recommend this movie for any Dragon Ball and Broly fan. This movie gave Broly the characterzation we were lacking in the old Broly films. I'm so excited that he is finally canon!
First of all, I don't know what the "green tint" is that people are talking about. I did not notice it if it's there. The movie is a phenomenal tribute to all DBZ fans and felt like a love letter from Akira Toriyama to fans of the show.
The movie progresses in art style which was really cool. The beginning starts with more DragonBall style art and gradually progresses in intensity and detail up to the quality expected in today's standards. There are even elements emulating the video games. This is truly a masterpiece from the view point of a life long DragonBall fan.
I hope the show is done and they just leave us with this beautiful work of art instead of pushing the show to even more ridiculous aspects than it already has.
