Customers are mixed about the heating of the survival kit. Some mention that it's a great way to heat up items, and it heats up quickly. They also say that it is fine for re-heating and simple cooking on clear days. However, others say that the temperature is warm enough to grow bacteria, but not nearly hot enough to heat food to a safe temperature. The silicone pan included doesn't heat as well as a dark metal pan, and the zipper is very flimsy and doesn''t hold up to heavy use.

Updated Review. Flimsy Zipper, but Cooks Food as it Says It Will
I am editing my prior review. When I first received my order this afternoon I had doubts about whether this would work for our needs. The zipper is very flimsy and I don’t think it will hold up to heavy use, or even light use. I think this is one thing the maker’s need to work on. If the zipper breaks and the bag is not able to remain closed and the heat escapes the whole unit will be worthless. So, my number one concern is with the zipper. But, with that said, I tested this cooker with a pot of rice. I am impressed! I left it out in direct sun for 3 hours. When I checked on it there was a steaming pot of fully cooked rice. I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, my husband ate the rice and says it was perfect. We are going to keep this unit and just be aware of the issue with the zipper. If it does break or rip I’m not sure if it can be repaired. If you buy this product know that you will need to handle it gently, but it does actually cook food as it says it will.
